Energy grids vary across the country, and while we’re getting closer to 100% clean electricity (renewables just surpassed coal), most still use fossil fuels. It’s vital that drivers charge their vehicles during off-peak hours, so they don’t put too much strain on the power system and increase emissions. In the United States, a recent study found that if all cars were EVs, it would require 20-50% more electricity per year, but that could be easily met with existing capacity.
