Electric City Vehicles Cars Power

As more consumers and governments turn to electric vehicles as a way to fight climate change, American carmakers are gearing up for a new era of personal transportation. It’s an era of more affordable, efficient and faster-charging cars that can also help take back our streets from big trucks and SUVs.

EVs can be either fully electric or hybrids that use both gas and electricity to power their motors. Another type, fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), run on compressed hydrogen.

The price to buy an EV may be hundreds of dollars less per year than a comparable gasoline-powered car, but the cost to charge it can vary widely depending on where you live and your energy costs. For instance, electricity rates in Connecticut are twice as high per kilowatt-hour as those in Oregon.

Where EVs are Made

It’s important to know where an EV is assembled, because it can affect whether it receives federal tax credits. Some automakers assemble them in the United States and get the full $7,500 credit, while others build them in China and receive less of a tax break.

Why You Should Consider An EV

The most important thing to understand is that an electric car can save you money in the long term. The cost to charge an EV can be hundreds of dollars less per year than the yearly cost to fuel a comparable gasoline-powered car.

In addition, many EVs are more reliable and perform better than conventional gas-powered cars. Moreover, many EVs are less expensive to maintain than their gasoline-powered counterparts.
