This video was brought to you by a Battery planner cam power Marcus Beale Steinberg and Bill componente Yo what's up we're now sitting in a Tesla Model 3 long range from 2021 and This is a special one because it has Been used as a taxi it has a lot of Supercharging and also there's something Weird with this battery it seems to have Some decode lots of degradation let me Just show you now the stats so yeah First of all this one is from Fremont You can see here that if it starts with 5y something that's Fremont it's not From Shanghai and then since this is 2021 model you know this one has the Panasonic battery the LG battery that is The one that in the Shanghai Factory Uses but initially the Panasonic battery Had 76 kilowatt hour in that capacity but They lower it to match the Shanghai LG Battery well okay so we will see here 96 Kilowatt hour as a 96 000 kilometers Okay and then It says here 100 charging complete it's Pulling one kilowatt just for for HVAC But look this is this is strange I've Never seen this before And 96.7 kilowatt hour first I thought It was something wrong with the what Should when you see I know that I Thought it was something wrong with its Settings but I don't think so this this
Is really weird man that the display Claims a hundred percent but in here we Have 96 and then look here usable Remaining only 63.5 kilowatt hour really Okay if you go to the all tab here and See all the stats uh let me see I'm not Sure which one we should be looking at Here I mean just the camera okay Um Okay it's pulling a little bit there uh Max Legion okay not nothing is there Look here look at this DC charge total This by the way this car uh belonged too Much because Bill yeah so thumbs up to Him man for providing the car I think he Bought it and but um look at this 16 000 kilowatt hour on DC this car has Been super charge a lot as a taxi and Only 10 only one thousand what the heck This is a quite unique case here lots Lots of DC fast charging I don't know How many percent this is but uh over 90 Percent uh something 95 DC fast charging Wow Crazy man but look at okay okay here are Some numbers here just scroll through so You can see some of the stuff here Um what we'll see is that you see here Full pack with new 77.8 kilowatt hour But that is until the car stops and then This car has three kilowatt hour buffer So if you take this one minus this one You get 74.7 kilowatt hour so that's I think that's what it had when it was
New so we have uh 74.7 sounds plausible And that also matches the the Giga Shanghai's LG battery which also has 74.5 kilowatt hours they're roughly There right okay but then how the heck Did we get only 60 well okay nominal full pack this one Is until this one also counts the buffer Until the car stops but Um what you want to look at is uh let me See there's a numbers here yeah usable Remaining that's the one from 100 To zero percent and then if we also use The buffer you get a little bit more Then you get supposed to 66 68.8 yeah But wow according to these numbers we Have whooping 15 Degradation that is massive even my Model 3 you know my model 3 Performance I measured eight percent but I didn't Supercharge that much the the the ratio Between DC and AC wasn't this like this There's much difference I actually did Some AC charging also I have no idea how This guy charged maybe he also Supercharged 100 a lot unfortunately I Can't see it here but let me see some Cell temp okay I want to see some Voltages Um yeah cell volt Min is 4.17 huh it Doesn't charge a 4.2 volt even what the Heck is going on with this car van this Battery this is really weird uh I Actually don't know what I'm supposed to
Do now uh should I try to charge it Again to 100 percent Uh well that that might take a long time But it's 96.7 here and It says 100 here so Uh okay maybe I will drive a little bit And then plug it into a fast charger and Then see if we can get okay this one Will be home but see if we can get Higher than 96.7 maybe the battery has Not been calibrated but it should be Balanced okay let's try that at least Well we're not charging at game Power And wow look at this at 99 we're getting 34 kilowatt you know when I was driving I noticed that I had region even at So-called hundreds and there and you can See here that uh okay it's got my Tesla Now so we had uh here 63.5 kilowatt hour It seems like it's going to go higher Now hmm but this is really weird that There's a difference between the number Here and the display you know I wonder If it has something to do with that that Her software cap that I heard about you Can also Google about this maybe the True Stellar charge is in fact 96.6 but Then the car's display shows it's at 99 Because this is the Panasonic battery it Wants to match the the LG batteries Kilowatt hour capacity right we'll see Okay we'll see now this is going Actually quite fast for 96 or something
97 let's wait and see what happens now In a couple of minutes and then also Wait but then do we certainly get more Than 63.5 kilowatt hour here uh Well it stopped it just magically Stopped suddenly 63 okay whatever let's start the test Now huh I suspect that there is a like a Artificial buffer a top buffer it's like It's like a German Auto But let me show in the back here we have The Avila box I have prepared this car For the test so we're going to do a Degradation test with the avilo here we Have uh the old burrito it goes to scama Tesla you see that I use a splitter hand And hook up in the back there so According to the display we see Omega in There so according to display we have 63.7 kilowatt hour okay I will reset Everything I should actually just reset It now with a trip And we will see how much energy do we Actually get out of it by driving it Yeah and then we compare all the results This one was as a video versus the Driving test that I do also While we're on the move and now we are Passing by cleavage yeah it's always Nice to be in the cleavage at night but Yeah so I choose to cruise at 100 Kilometers per hour this car is fairly Efficient model 3 so um yeah maybe 90 Would be slightly better the reason for
It is because when I do a degradation Test I don't want to introduce too much Heat loss in the battery by hammering Too hard but 100 should be fine and then Okay you see here that we have 93 Percent Also shows the same 93 percent because This is it seems like it's what it gets What the the car reports but not what The true state of charge is because Right now it's 90.3 percent but okay uh consumption so Far is 176 watt hour per kilometer is a Bit High because we just went uphill so I will just Cruise Maybe to the north most point now just Stick with the motorway uh go to uh and Then back again or something and then I Drive a little bit back and forth so um We're just testing the battery right now So I don't care too much about Consumption well unless it's too high But it's not too high right now at least We have now reached the north mode point Where I want to drive at least and more And yeah so we are down to 66 percent Or 64 depending on how you see it and Look at the consumption man been Cruising at 100 kilometers per hour and The consumption is 149 watt hour per Kilometer wow really impressive you can See here also the owner previous well I Mean yeah the previous owner He had only 153 what a kilometer this is
Since we started driving I mean since The car was Branch Banking new that is Very impressive Uh considering that he must have used it In some areas in Winter also wow Okay Um so far so good now we just turn Around somewhere here and we see Resistance and this is why I normally Don't take this route if I go on the 90 Tests 120 kilometers per hour test Because this is a long-ish turnaround Plus slowdown also We still have 66 battery left so if we Go all the way back to Oslo we still Have too much juice so what I'm going to Do is drive a little bit around the Muse And And then I head back Yeah that's the plan Okay and then back here again oh yeah Okay back on the motorway We are now at yesterday yes I'm getting Close to my new home but yeah so the Battery is also getting close to empty We have 10 on display and then a Velo Test is now finished it only goes to uh 10 percent Well actually I'm not sure if it Measures below it but okay so you got This message but I will still keep going Until we have almost zero percent so my Measurement will go deeper yes always go Deep
So so far we have 56.5 kilowatt hour used and then 6.4 Kilowatt hour left oh Okay so we'll head back to the city now We are roughly uh 32 kilometers away From uh honorable We are done d-o-n with a test And yes we drove it all the way to zero Percent And then if you see here Um the trip meter here reports 63 Kilowatt hour used 148 watt hour per Kilometer we draw over 400 kilometers Very impressive but then we get a higher Precision here in Sky my Tesla see that Scama Tesla reported we got 62.8 Kilowatt hour uh in the beginning it Estimated 63.7 so there is some 0.9 kilowatt hour Loss discharging loss right zero percent So um yeah what else should we see uh Yeah Here we see expected remaining so yeah If we drive it below zero we will Probably get three uh 3.1 kilowatt hour More But uh yeah let's plug it in and I had To wait for the the alveolo test also It's been four days now since we did the Test and I still haven't received the Avilo test results so I think I need to Email them but I'm gonna try another Battery test here and see we did start The battery 10 I'm plugged in right now
And if I go to software here and then Whole model 3 for five seconds we can Enter the service menu and then you just Type service Okay enable service HVAC will stop Immediately when you enter service mode And if you wait for it to load You go to high voltage and then HP System And then here Battery health it doesn't say anything And we're going to try another help test And then you have to unlock a gateway so You have to press how this is going to Hold hold the right turn signal to Active and then okay so we do this first And then Hold this one and then wait eight Seconds To unlock Gateway Oh yeah Gateway unlocked If we locked in huh okay well Well I can we can stop this one now Health test Okay so it says Um yeah we're gonna try this but it's a Very small hand as you can read it also We'll start making noise it will Actually use the HVAC to discharge the Battery while we are stationary and then It says the state of charge must be Below 50 I have 10 so it should be Faster we are plugged into AC Uh obviously at least six kilowatts oh
I don't have that Oh well I wonder if it still works uh Okay run what happens now Okay well that one is met Um but I don't have a fast enough Charging now the thing is that with this Test there is no progress bar or Anything so Um unfortunately what works is that you Can use this card via the app you cannot Lock unlock the car but if you do this Now we have locked the car So we just have to sit and wait and see Tomorrow how it is It's now a little bit past the one at Night I'm sitting in another three doing Some tests but also check out on the Tesla right now Oh it's been many hours now and you see That in the app I can see that it's Charging it just says service mode but You can at least see stay the charge and Be paying attention that the Steeler Shot being going up so I guess this the Test is ongoing it's doing the charging Now and calculating the battery Degradation based on this All right the car has been sitting like This for a while now it finished Charging to 90 I'm not sure uh okay if That's intentional not 100 like I've Heard from other people who tested this And now we are well this is also a bit Weird we have 88 there
And then we have 86 no no it's the real I forgot it's a real single charge your 86 is a real silver chart this is just Uh uh a synthetic uh percent because They limit uh the the capacity on the Panasonic battery but okay let's see now If you go here Let me see if we see any result huh What is it still not Beyond done yet Uh wait but It has now been grayed like this as if Yeah as if it has finished so actually We did not get any result it seems like Um but also okay Um I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do Now um maybe we can at least try to Charge it to 100 again and see what we Get Uh yeah let's do that All right we charge the car to 100 I Think it finished overnight and now it's Back to 99 uh but I think it's close to 100. I tried to re-plug it in and it Refuses to start charging this is the Way Tesla works I've been doing this for Several years but okay if we look here You will see that um used to be Remaining yeah 63.8 kilowatt hour 16 0.7 Earlier so it's a slight difference There uh but we still have 96.6 as the This I mean the the actual steel charge Here and then this one is just um uh I Don't know what you call it uh yeah just For this display for the user but I got
The the result from a Velo finally it Was that took almost a week and then They claim 11 degradation I was looking Closer I was like huh what the heck so They claimed 65.8 kilowatt hour usable Capacity and then total was 74. 65.8 how how did they get it because we Have 63.8b this is what the BMS claims And we did the actual test and we never Ever got the closest 65.8 Um during the Avila test the screen Showed the or the state of charge on the Screen was not this one I mean in the in The app or the the website it was not This one showing on on the app it Actually showed this one for the user Which would be less confusing because if The user saw the true stator charger Build a habotech is going on is the System uh not correct or something right But I think actually uh behind the scene In the in the under the hood avilo did Uh collect this Stellar charge and then It probably did all the calculation Based on this so I'm guessing what they Did or what the system this one was it It didn't expect me to start with 100 it May be calculated oh okay you didn't Start with 100 but we're gonna calculate It anyway so it probably assumed that I Started with 97 and then it extrapolated It up to 58.8 that's my best guess and That's why at least avilo claims that It's only 11 but my own calculation
After my own Test shows 16 percent So then it boils down to which one do You believe do you believe the Avila Test what about the Tesla test we Haven't figured out but also some people Who managed to get the Tesla Service Menu test they also got some weird Results watches using those third-party Apps where you hook up your uh requires The credential via the API and then it Somehow also tries to figure out the Degradation and then you have my actual Driving test so yeah I'm going to use of Course my own actual driving test as the Result is 16 percent And how bad is it it is actually quite Bad the car is only two years old it Hasn't even reached 100 000 kilometers Yet and it has whopping 16 degradation I Never ever measured a Tesla to have this High degradation even my 10 year old Okay the battery is nine year old my Nine year old battery in Melanie Falcon Has done um How much is this it's getting close to 300 000 kilometers it has only around Well by now maybe 12 degradation uh and Even Millennium Falcon also supercharge A lot during his time Um so how the heck could this one have So high degradation I suspect that the Taxi driver had it probably supercharge It well it did a lot we were able to see That but probably supercharger 200
That's the thing that what we can't see Here we we don't see the traces of that But I'm guessing uh because when you Supercharge the battery temperature goes Up which is bad for the battery But what is bad for the battery is Um like a as a product almost if you Stay at high Stellar charge too long That's not good if you stay at high Standard charge and the battery is high That is even worse if you have high Battery temperature and stay the charge Is low low ish mid that's not that bad Or if you stay at the high standard Charge but the battery temperature is Not that high that's also not too bad so I suspect that they had the worst Conditions You know High battery temperature from Supercharging high standard charge 100 Possibly and then maybe they were just Camping there for a while or a long time Or who knows uh before they got a Customer and then so that's probably why Ideally what we need to do is we have to Test our car that has super charge a lot But not charged 100 that often but I Have some some proof or at least some Other results which is from my own Teslas and I know how I use them Melanie Falcon my Tesla Model S P85 Optimus Prime Tesla Model X P90d lyricist the P85 I mentioned that One I draw a lot around supercharger a
Lot but also AC charge as a mix Um this Optimus Prime the model X I pull Trailer a lot but I did not charge 100 That often because it would take too Long I would use a charge to Um yeah I would pull trailer I would Charge to let's say I will charge Between uh 10 and maybe 70 to 90 I Really went past 90 it would take too Long so at least that's slightly better And also once I finish charging I would Get going immediately you know and then The last car was the MC Hammer Tesla Model 3 Performance and also Superchargers a lot did some tests some Hammering tests but there were lots of Tests but I never had this super high Ratio between DC and AC but it was still High on my cars but they had not Remotely as a high degradation as this One so my guess is that um Yeah well actually I'm not sure I'm not Sure but um yeah I'll just show you guys The result and I'm trying to figure out What what is it with this one but also Is there something wrong with this car Is there something wrong with the module Is it kaput you know If something is wrong I would guess that The battery I mean the car should tell Me that something was wrong but we don't Know maybe I have to go to the expert I Have to go to Nasi or to um To um
Voldemort and let them examine the car Because I believe that muscus owns this One and then we can dig deeper and see If they find something wrong with the Car or the battery or if it's just a Result of degradation so but yeah I mean I can just based on one observation they Say that you know just the shout Wolf Don't supercharge a lot but then that's Going to be negative because then people Will assume that ha ha lol so this these Electric cars they are because yeah You could you should fast you should not Fast charge them you're going to ruin The battery well not if you do it the Right way then it's not going to hurt The battle too much so that's still my Claim yeah there's been some because the Reason why I say this is there's been Some stuff in the media earlier this Year during summer spring it was some Information from avilo which is the Battery tester and they claim that you Know don't supercharge or don't fast Charge it's going to ruin your battery And then the Norwegian News stuff right and the car tester they Took this information And then they spread it and then it Became some kind of Hysteria that don't Fast charge it's going to kill your EV Battery well I don't believe it blindly yeah so Anyway let's have a healthy discussion

Wink Motors’ new four-wheeled cars are street-legal under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s low-speed vehicle regulations. And they have an impressive list of features.
Ford GM Power Manufacturing
Electric cars are on the cusp of becoming the norm, and big automakers have ambitious goals for their lineups. General Motors says it will only produce electrified models by 2035, and has invested $27 billion in EV development. Ford is spending nearly as much, and will add 30 plug-in cars to its lineup by 2025. Toyota, Volkswagen, Nissan, and Hyundai are also investing heavily in EVs. And many franchise car dealers are preparing for the transition by training salespeople to sell EVs and recruiting service technicians who can work on them.
One of the biggest challenges will be ensuring that the grid can handle the extra demand. EVs consume about a third less energy than gasoline-powered cars, but they still require a significant amount of power. Fortunately, the state of California is ahead of most areas in its commitment to renewable energy. But the rest of the country gets a lot of its electricity from fossil fuels, and that could spell trouble.
