With EV models now boasting driving ranges of up to 330 miles, and more on the way, many drivers are ready to leave their gasoline-powered sedans and SUVs behind. But when it comes to deciding whether an EV is right for you, there are several factors to consider including your commute distance, if you regularly make long road trips and the availability of public charging stations where you will be able to recharge your car.

In addition, a new generation of charging station providers are committing to offer more consumer-facing resources in 2023 such as EVsmart, which will help drivers compare their vehicle options and cost-effectiveness to the growing number of charging networks. Exelon is also committing to stretch federal funding for EV charging even further by leveraging complementary state, utility and private investments to speed the energization of EV charging stations.

Adding more EV charging locations in shopping centers, parking garages and workplaces will help apartment dwellers who cannot charge their cars at home. And, despite the upfront sticker shock, EVs are still generally less expensive to own than their gasoline counterparts. Additionally, a wide variety of tax incentives are available for EV buyers that can further reduce their initial purchase costs. In addition, the energy source for EVs is generally much cheaper than gasoline, which further lowers operating costs. This combination of factors makes EVs a smart choice for most drivers. But, before you decide to take the leap, make sure to read our Electric City Vehicles Buyer’s Guide.
