AEP Ohio Provides $10 Million in Incentives For Electric City Vehicles
Electric city vehicles (EVs) are a critical component in the fight against climate change. With fewer moving parts, less chance of breaking something, and a smaller carbon footprint, EVs offer an environmentally conscious alternative to gas-powered cars.
For starters, they are convenient. Many EV owners charge their vehicles at home, at work, or on the go. This saves time and money. Plus, EVs are quiet at low speeds. They also tend to last longer than their gas-powered counterparts, saving you from costly tune-ups and oil changes.
However, before you rush out and buy your own EV, you should consider how much it will cost to own. This is especially true if you want to drive long distances. You will likely pay more than a traditional gasoline-powered car. In addition, you will need to have a charger at home and a public charging station.
Depending on the vehicle, you can expect a range of between 200 and 400 miles. The EPA rates electric vehicles by both city and highway range. In fact, some of the most advanced models can travel over 40 miles on electricity alone.
Despite the potential benefits, the market is still not large enough to satisfy all EV owners. Some drivers worry that the range of their EV will dwindle without a public charging station. To alleviate that concern, AEP Ohio will provide $10 million in incentives to install at least 1000 vehicle charging stations in six counties around Columbus by 2020.
