The EV market is heating up, with several automakers announcing new models or expanding existing lineups to include an EV option. Designer Henrik Fisker, for example, is planning to follow his 2023 Ocean SUV with a small Pear EV in 2024. Ford has also made an big investment in EV production with the construction of BlueOval City, a factory that will churn out at least 500,000 electric vehicles annually. And, of course, it already sells the F-150 Lightning, a pickup with a EPA-estimated range of up to 320 miles.
Other brands have invested in hybrids or pure-electric cars that use lithium batteries to supplement the gas engine for extended cruising. The Chevrolet Bolt EV, for example, offers up to 238 miles of driving range with a fully charged battery. And the Toyota Prius PHEV delivers a similar amount of range on electricity alone.
Other manufacturers, such as Porsche, have focused on high-performance EVs. Its slick-looking Taycan sedan is available in both base and GTS guises, with the latter getting an EPA-estimated 246 miles of range from its 93.4-kWh battery pack.
