Electrifying New York Plans to Increase Public Charging for Electric Vehicles
The City of New York’s Electrifying New York plan outlines eight initiatives to increase public charging for electric vehicles. The plan aims to make the city one of the leading places in the country for EV adoption. The plan calls for more than 1,000 curbside charge points and 20 percent of municipal parking spaces to be equipped with Level 2 charging stations by the end of the next four years. The plan also aims to install a total of ten thousand EV charging stations by 2030.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is another entry in the EV segment. Available in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel drive, the Ioniq 5 has a price of $40,925. It comes with an available 77.4-kWh battery pack and a range of 79 miles. The car also has the option of having a two-motor setup.
Currently, the most common way for EVs to charge is by plugging them into a conventional car charger. While many utilities do not have the necessary infrastructure to support large-scale EV development, a few companies have made significant investments in EV technology. Ford, for example, is making huge investments in developing EV technology to compete with Tesla Inc. The company is also preparing for the upcoming tougher emissions regulations.
Kia’s EV6 sits just above the Niro EV. The EV6 has a sticker price of $42,115. It comes with a single rear-mounted motor and a 58.0 kWh battery pack, and offers a combined fuel economy rating of 117 MPGe. The EV6’s range extends to 310 miles on a single charge. It also requires between three and twelve hours to recharge. There are also fast chargers available for EVs.
