Electric Vehicles Drive on Electricity

About

Electric vehicles (EVs) drive on electricity, which comes from a variety of sources. The City is partnering with local organizations to support the EV movement in Eugene, including helping people find affordable EVs and ensuring there is access to charging stations.

The City’s EV Strategy sets ambitious goals for the community to reduce transportation-related GHG emissions. By utilizing EVs, the City can reduce emissions from fossil fuel use and make our economy more resilient and sustainable.

EVs are more efficient than conventional vehicles, reducing fuel costs and emitting zero GHGs. EVs can also save money on vehicle maintenance and repair. EV ownership can be subsidized by the federal Qualified Plug-In Electric-Drive Motor Vehicle Tax Credit, state and utility incentives, as well as reduced energy rates for EV charging.

Tesla

Since its beginnings, Tesla has been at the forefront of EV innovation, with models like the Model S and the Model 3 proving to be market leaders in both performance and range. Its latest battery-powered vehicles can go up to 300 miles on a charge and are designed with both passenger and cargo capacity in mind. Other companies, such as Lucid Motors, strive to combine sustainability with luxury, creating smart electric cars that can reach 60 MPH in less than three seconds and feature a smart ecosystem that offers voice control, mobile connectivity and cutting-edge GPS technology.
