This video was brought to you by a Battery planner cam power Marcus Beale Steinberg and Bill componente Yo what's up we are now sitting in an Electric bus and we're going to do 1 000 Kilometer challenge we actually we Already started it was a little bit um Unexpected but okay we are already Started we started uh let me see here Eight minutes past seven in the morning So I can show you guys what it looks Like we now have a Pro driver here a bus driver driving for Me We have digital mirrors here Plus conventional mirrors this is a test Vehicle so it's loaded with some Equipment Also another great thing is that okay This is this This is for uh Urban environment but Since this is a test bus then we are Actually allowed to go at 100 kilometers Per hour there's some trip meters and Stuff going on over there but I can also Look at the the dashboard here We see that we are taking 140 kilowatts speed is 98 we have some Distances and stuff I wrote down when we Started so we will count 1 000 Kilometers and also the alarm here it's Always calibrated so did every I don't Remember how many how often it was when It was yearly so it is dead accurate and

We have some stuff here also oh yeah we Have to write down all this stuff see if We have instead of charge here we are Down to 97 let me see this but yeah 97 97.2 state of charge here wow pretty Cool Hey what is it charge Point huh I don't Understand man is it charge Point okay But cool so we have this one up and Running and then here is the bus So it's a it's just a small one but it Has some USB here we yeah this is for City driving plenty of space so if I get Tired I could even lay down in the back There and I think Michael not sure yeah I think Michael is What did he take the Volkswagen oh yeah You too Um I'm not the driver the guy who Invited me he's driving behind us right Now he will do the second run after the First bus driver has finished his uh He's done around noon so yeah This is uh equipped with uh I think it Was around It was around 280 kilowatt hour battery It charges really fast but then out of Those 280 kilowatt hour gross capacity Um normally this bus will have around 250 kilowatt hour in net capacity but Because this is what the developer bus Then we actually have only 190 kilowatt Hours that's a slight disadvantage But okay so yeah this is going to be

Very chill live stream for me I have a Large I mean 1 000 kilometer challenge I Would just document everything how long It takes uh we are also even uploading Some stuff here on the laptop and um Yeah it's a bit loud but normally this Bus is supposed to drive at 80 in the City that's why so yeah now we just Chill I'm not sure where we're supposed To go now Um and I know roughly where we are Headed and then the thing is that we Will drive back and forth look back and Forth I mean how realistic is it well It's a bus you know buses are supposed To drive back and forth back and forth So we're just going to measure how long Does it take to drive 1 000 kilometer Yeah we will see Also we are now at they call it autohoff So over there We have the ionitis Oh I press the stop button by accident Yeah so we'll probably come back to that One there's some diners it's cool cool Months I think it's full so Michael uh The other dude he is Somewhere here yeah this will not be Counted in the 1000 kilometer challenge Because there's also some testing stuff Going on but we also incorporate the 1000 government challenge So um I think we're supposed to have Some breakfast now and take a little

Stop oh yeah yeah okay Michael is over There So and we will not charge the the bus Yet I think or I'm not sure uh Okay there's Michael right let's see now Yeah okay he goes he goes in the back Here Over the front Okay yeah you always Enter the front Okay we're all set up right now we have Some breakfast there Michael brought us Some breakfast uh some options Let me see I'm not sure what this one is Awesome okay okay some stuff yeah Sandwiches with ham and cheese and then Here we have the live stream set up so Uh well let me adjust a little bit there So we're gonna have a little bit of a q A maybe And then we will just sit there and Chill for the next few hours this is Very chill one thousand kilometer Challenge compared to uh when I drive We are now back at ayonti winter Yeah Linda and look here wow we have Done Look at this okay I'll show that later So now we're gonna go charge so it looks A bit weird because we have we have 38 But the thing is that Because this is a test vehicle we we are Capped at roughly 20 if you reach 20 we Will go in the limp mode and then we can Go at 40 kilometers per hour so that's

Why but the first leg okay not ideal but Still good enough otherwise if you turn Around we will get into some style so We'll just um uh charge here And then keep going There are the the ironing charges I Can't wait to see how fast we'll be Charging okay now we wait for uh green Light I'll show you now wow look at that Consumption is really good six 680 watt hour programmer So let's see Uh yeah And then finally I can take a yeah I Forgot to mention or maybe needless to Say since this is a city bus there is no Toilet here and I didn't bring a Portable urinal so but we can go at the Yeah rest resting there's this restroom Somewhere here Okay First starting stop Okay so this is actually an advantage First since we're driving the short bus We are not taking up too much space Um so there's still plenty of space here For other cars to to charge Plus on this Side yeah three stalls there so there's A Volvo truck charging here you can see Is you guys are interested the Volvo is Taking 228 kilowatts And then we are charging we are charging Now Taking two

280 equal To 216. what is that huh isn't it Supposed to be flat this is the back we Have to restart and we can go far faster Oh oh okay well yeah let's restart oh It's a bug oh it's a bug okay okay so um Uh in a way you can say well it should Be deduct this Um maybe it's part of the the challenge Right we can't deduct too much stuff but Yeah so far so good and then I have to Get over Get some drinks somewhere yeah okay look At this the short bus now you guys see It better I I had to start this before We filmed the outside of the bus but There's only a 8.5 meter bus So And then they can show here yeah so this The display here they they customize the Display so is this eurobus TB 1000 Kilometer I'm not sure if you can see it There Cool cool um okay we changed all but There seems to be some technical Problems so uh Michael just restarted The bus we didn't deduct this normally It goes smoother than this so remember That this is just a test bus so the Production bus should run a lot smoother So let's see then Oh yeah everything is good now 288 Kilowatt at 45 wait I think we have Around 20 minutes at the charging okay I

Went to the restroom it's going to be a Semi-hot day so I put on my shorts and Then okay let's see now so what do we do From here because um the the route we'll Be taking is South around 100 kilometers And then back again so it's a little bit Over 200 kilometers I think that's Actually what we did previously now that Loop Um no no that was a different one but You see now even at 80 we are taking 212 Kilowatts very nice and flat curve but We worked out that for for one Loop we Need to spin around 60 of the battery it's a bit weird the Whole scale here because it's a Developer thing so we could actually go Now and also legally the driver has had Over 30 minutes stop so he cannot Already go so we just had to find out How much longer we stay here or if we go Now yeah All right we're off um that was a little Bit over half an hour charging I'm not Sure but just have to look at the Numbers so far so yeah off we go another Loop and then we come back here so we Just come back to the same I only Charger All right we are just hammering now so Let me show you that we have navigation Here on on the side there so the bus Driver is looking at that one to know Where where we're going it says TomTom

And then here so it turns out that the Studs we see here is slightly different Slightly and not correct compared to Where but at least the trip meter here We see here It gets reset Every time we recharge so see right now We are running on 160 watt hour per kilometer between 66 Kilometers now so which means that in Around 40 kilometers we'll turn around But we have slight headwind on this Direction because actually no you can See it over there wind turbines we have Some crosswinds And then let's see in our temperature Outside yeah we have 21.5 degrees Celsius outside So without the 61 yeah I think Everything is according to the plan now Well actually are we spending slightly More than the previous one well I don't Know But I see one advantage by the way with The with the virtual mirrors is that uh You see the driver he has the mirrors There and there they're closer that one Is a little bit further away but the Advantage of that one is that you can Then see see on this side when you look At the mirror So yeah and then we also have a backup Camera So the driver

Use a backup camera always up and Running here So it seems like a nice driving position For the driver and he has this one is The this is called a retardation stock With five different levels just like a Like a truck on a regular bus a fossil One so it works just the same so it's Just the different levels of region So um According to Michael there is no special Training here you just drive it if you Know how to drive a regular bus you know How to drive this one well we're back at The Georgia yeah so we'll just loop Around and then plug in here Okay there's even a guy with a caravan Over there so see this takes a little Bit longer than a car because it's a bus So we have to find the right location And plug it in and then okay oh yeah Yeah so Michael gives instructions where To plug it in All right we had a slight problem here Once it fails handshake it just kind of Bugs and then you have to use the Easiest way to just to switch charges we Lost a minute if that matters or Whatever so this time I might not want To uh Deduct this one oh we came with 27 way How to see it do I see anything there Oh it's really hard to see anything Wait what the heck man the screen is so

Hard to read now in the daytime there Kind of yeah oh no it bugged the Turning Bugged boat again the charging boat Yeah it just stopped again oh it is yeah I'm not sure what what it is if I I bump Into the cable or if it's something with A car Well we're traveling now it's really Hard to see the display 283 kilowatt oh That means we need to take yeah we need To take that mandatory uh rest break for The driver I think yeah he already went The bus driver maybe I've seen some cars Uh it could bug if you've touched the Cable even it might so we want to avoid Touching the cable so but also Michael Said that He took a trip with this bus this bus Not long ago and it worked just great so It's weird that it bugs today it Shouldn't bug so we will deduct two Minutes for a little bit of handshake Problems Okay we have a little bit of time now so I just need lunch I didn't eat too much Yesterday so I'm a little bit hungry Today but look they have uh Curry boost Over here this time I went for the the Regular potato not the fried potato oh Let's try If you come to Deutschland you have to Get currywurst Especially around Berlin but also I Think they have curves all over Germany

Now Nice Um And then I just found Dr Pepper oh yeah right There yeah Dr Pepper can it be any better Oh this is pretty cool that's a Dashboard so you see we see how many Kilowatts we are taking voltage amps What is this one versus this is the the Current amp that is flowing and this is The maximum limit summary of DMS and Charging station oh so let's see what is The limit because sometimes you see it Startling from the station from the BMS The charging wire with our current uh we Have to stay below 90. okay and then With the 24 volt battery that the DC DC Is working The mileage the soc well this is a lot Of notice stuff yeah it's a development I like this oh yeah of course voltage so This is for development so for Production I mean customer cars won't Look like this no we just removed the an Interesting values yeah but if the Customer wants to see a different value Then we just add One cool since we do this in-house it's Very easy Okay this is the third Wagner third Loop So um yeah I can show you again I think I didn't show it much last time you see

Here this is what it looks like the Mirrors The the virtual mirrors I like it and we are the important Mirrors you have pretty good vision Over what's going on in the side so now We're passing the truck and then they Have some guidelines also oh well Roughly the end of the truck when under The end of the bus is roughly nice nice But okay anyway the bus driver was Supposed to Really I think it was supposed to stop Or end at this one or previous I'm not Sure but He was so happy that he went to another Extra Loop he liked driving this bus so Much So Yeah is it is it first first time you Drive Electro Electro bus Oh two times okay Yeah cool so we see that this one here Is for every charting uh every time we Charge we reset so I have all those Numbers And I put them into a spreadsheet so the Air conditioning and then Michael he's Answering the Q a there's some live Stream there they have lots of questions For Michael We'll have all the legs and then I Calculate everything here and then I Post this

And put the live stream here So this is a bit unusual uh viewing Point so I'm just filming now out to the Back window But we definitely chose the right Location the right road because we have Three lanes in each Direction and with Unrestricted traffic also but also Weekday because during weekends there's Usually more campers on the road Especially on Sundays the instructions Are not allowed But yeah so we have been traveling Oh That's a fast one It's a Volkswagen Yeah I think it was called ayeton But yeah so so far so good I'm just Enjoying the ride yeah you see enjoying The view you know some people mention That Bjorn you see you have some of These spots here You should have sold tickets yeah we Could probably sell tickets oh just fun Fun stuff yeah so how much how much Would you pay for a ticket in a in a 1 000 kilometer bus ride Yeah all right let's see now Yeah bye Whoa It's been dry for a long time And then the forest catches fire so uh It's close to the uh I own the Georgia and winter but Not over there fortunately 5-10 kilometers foreign

Now it works it's so Random whether it Works or not Okay yeah we came every 25 or 26 so it Should jump up to 200 and 180 kilowatt again Like every time now let me see Oh it's so hard to see on the screen Here We'll check yeah okay I can't see it now Oh yeah every time boom no call gets Here no replicate just super consistent All right oh it's like this was a 200 Kilometer Loop so we are roughly at 600 Kilometers now Um two more laps and then we're good so As usual I will just go over there to uh Um The the Charger I'm just looking huh it's an i4 Yeah the iPhone M50 wait wait Okay Yeah rinse and repeat but I need to set Up yeah the live stream is in history Live stream is it's sucked in here right Now I need to move the livestream camera Before yeah they want to look at the Charger screen also This is a very nice charting location so You see the George is over there and if You ever wonder is it boring to charge And wait for it no not at all because Over here we have cool mans It's an American style diners

We have gas station over there And then we have McDonald's over there And then here we even have Spielhalla and sex shop and Chino Yeah I mean if you ever need to if your Leaf is rapidgating well okay then you Wouldn't be charging here but I mean if You need to take a long shotting stop Then why not visit the sex shop and then Go to the casino Oh yeah to see we're taking 274 Kilowatts you can see it there at 66 Percent Nice and flat charting curve and this Time you see that they settled the Battery is at 35 to 40 degrees celsius So nice and consistent so no overheating No colgates All looking good we had a little bit of A handshake problem and some some bugs Yeah something about if the saddle Max Goes a little bit about 3.5 volts then It throttles so it's a it's a bug you're Not supposed to be like that there's Nothing overheating or anything like That so then we had to restart but we Counted all the the bugs that happens With this test car and with the duck for It Oh man Um we're about to leave now so uh When we were at around 75 percent I felt like oh uh I might have a bad Stomach and then I had to run over to

The gas station and yes I had a type 3C Discharge It took some time when he came back we Had 96 I was like oh but we were Still taking 220 kilowatt and it started Dropping a little bit so we actually Didn't lose that much time so we charged A lot now but it means that the the last Stop we will stop we just arrived with Over 30 and that means that the last Stop will be short and that's it so oh Man it's so nice that we have a such a Flat charting curve okay so now we are Rolling Yeah second to last run now and another 200 kilometers yeah live stream is up And running And yeah I have to check some of the Shots now All right we still have the same bus Driver He's actually doing four runs now that Means that Michael is will only do one Run at the last one and then Michael is Just chilling in the back there And I think I will also try to get some Chill time So I have the stone bike kilo And just two wow this must be the first 1000 kilometer challenge where I can Sleep While driving Yeah self-driving in Tesla is not that Great yet so maybe one day I can also

Just sleep Between the superchargers or Good look we have a truck loaded with Model wise so you know that gigabolin is Nearby so um Yeah and they are producing 5 000 cars Per week now which is roughly 800 cars Per working day And that means that about every five Minutes they roll out one truckload of Uh well that was a fast look at one Truckload of Teslas six Teslas in one Truck oh that's a new color nice well Lots of the new colors So this is awesome man they're pumping Out Tesla like crazy See let me get a good position Yeah Giga Berlin I could go there visit Giga Berlin but Um not sure what I'm supposed to do There because it's not like they have Like a a welcome uh Team for me or Something so yeah We have to make an emergency stop here Because I have a bad stomach could be From the Korea was 1656 we count when we Use which I have to go to the restroom oh I Hope it's available yeah it's it comes In waves so it was urgent a minute ago So yeah this is just emergency for uh Its irregularity so we had to deduct for This

Consumer Reports Identifies the Best Electric City Vehicles

EVs are a smart choice for urban drivers who rarely travel far and want to avoid paying for gasoline or dealing with traffic jams. But not all EVs are created equal. Some have much faster charging times than others, and some offer more comfort and range. Consumer Reports identifies the best models available today and helps buyers make informed decisions about which ones are right for them.

The most popular EVs are battery-powered cars. They have no gas engine and can be recharged to 80% of capacity in just 30 minutes. They also produce fewer emissions than traditional cars. Most are smaller, making them easier to maneuver in tight city streets.

A handful of automakers have also launched pickup trucks and SUVs that run on electricity. The Chevy Bolt is the most popular vehicle of this kind. Its battery can be charged to full capacity in less than three hours, and it offers a 310-mile range.

Ford has invested heavily in electric vehicles, including a new factory in Dearborn that can produce up to 500,000 vehicles annually. The company says it’s its largest investment in any plant ever. But the United Auto Workers union says the shift to EVs threatens the job security of its members.

Some energy and auto executives think it will be possible to use electric cars to send power back to the grid, a system called regenerative braking. That could allow homeowners and utilities to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels that contribute to climate change. It could also help keep homes running when the grid is congested during peak demand.
