GM has unveiled a new Electric Vehicle (EV) that starts at $30,000, the Equinox. This new model has two different powertrains and a zero-emissions driving mode. It will go on sale in fall 2023. The rest of the Equinox models will follow in spring 2024.
GM unveils $30,000 Equinox EV
GM has unveiled the Equinox EV, a new electric compact SUV. The car will be based on GM’s Ultium platform and have a range of up to 250 miles according to the EPA. There are also higher-end trims with 300 miles of range and a twin-motor eAWD system.
The base version of the Equinox EV will start at $30,000, making it significantly more affordable than many of its electric rivals. It will cost around $13,000 less than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and $13,000 less than the Ford Mustang Mach-E. It will also be eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV is similar in size to its gasoline counterpart, but it features more aggressive styling. It has a longer and wider base, and the roofline is lower. The car also has similar cargo space, with a cargo area of 57 cubic feet. It comes in two trim levels, the LT and RS. The LT has a body-color front fascia, while the RS has black mesh around its nose.
Two available powertrains
The GM Equinox EV is a new electric vehicle that comes with two powertrain options. The standard battery is 250 miles, while the longer-range pack has a range of 300 miles. This vehicle is powered by GM’s Ultium electric platform, which it developed with LG Energy Solutions. The car’s battery is backed by an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
The base model of the GM Equinox EV includes an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an eight-way power driver seat. Standard safety features on the car include forward collision alert, lane keep assist, and blind-spot warning. There is also a safety alert seat, which buzzes the driver when a safety feature triggers. The EV also offers advanced driver assistance systems such as Super Cruise and adaptive cruise control.
Hands-free driver assistance technology
Hands-free driver assistance technology is an essential component of a hybrid car, and GM is working on it for the Equinox EV. The Equinox EV is based on the same platform as the Silverado EV, and features a 17.0-inch touchscreen and an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster. The car also has a standard head-up display and an optional rear-view camera mirror. Unlike many hybrid vehicles, the Equinox EV has a sleek and sporty design. It also features two-tone exteriors, a retro-styled white roof, and 19-inch wheels.
The new Equinox EV will feature a variety of driver assistance systems, depending on the trim level. The first of these is Super Cruise, which allows hands-free driving on highways in the U.S. It will also be able to operate on two-lane roads and undivided freeways. The system will have a battery life of about 400,000 miles. The Super Cruise feature will be available on all Equinox EV models, including the base one.
Zero-emissions driving
The upcoming GM Equinox EV is a crossover SUV with zero-emission driving capabilities. It will be available for sale in the fall of 2023. Chevy plans to share more details about this model throughout the year. The company has also confirmed the arrival of an EV Blazer in 2023.
The Equinox EV will be offered in a variety of trim levels and battery capacities. The base model will start around $30,000 and come standard with front-wheel drive. Its EPA-estimated driving range will be about 250 to 300 miles. The vehicle will have two optional high-performance RS variants. These models will feature a more sporty interior and better tech.
The Chevy Equinox EV is expected to be priced lower than most of its competition. The company also hopes that this will encourage gas-car buyers to buy an electric car.
Reduced maintenance
GM is offering reduced maintenance on its new electric vehicle, the Equinox EV. In addition to bumper-to-bumper coverage, GM is offering an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty. Reduced maintenance costs are expected to make the Equinox EV a more attractive option than its gas-powered counterpart.
The first visit to an authorized EV service center is free for owners of GM’s Bolt and Equinox EV models. During this visit, the EV technician will perform a comprehensive multipoint inspection, including checking the coolant level and visual inspection of every component. The technician will also test the braking system.
The Equinox EV has a price starting at around $30,000, which makes it one of the most affordable EVs in its class. With an estimated range of 300 miles on a full charge, it rounds out the Chevrolet electrified line-up. The new Equinox EV is slated to debut in fall 2023, starting with a limited edition model called the 2RS. It will be built in GM’s Ramos Arizpe, Mexico facility.
