Electric cars have revolutionized the auto industry, putting American manufacturers on track to produce 50 percent of their sales from EVs by 2030. Ford, GM and Chrysler are leading the charge with ambitious plans to convert their production lines to electric cars and trucks.
Among their best-selling models are the F-150 Lightning pickup and Mustang Mach-E SUV. Those and other Ford EVs are assembled at a new $5.6 billion mega campus in Stanton, Tennessee, called BlueOval City. The plant will be designed to become carbon neutral with zero waste to landfill once fully operational.
Automotive Dealers And EVs
The National Automobile Dealers Association estimates that dealerships are going to play a critical role in the growth of the EV market. They are a crucial resource for consumers, and a valuable source of expertise.
They can offer a variety of incentives to encourage consumers to purchase an EV, including grants and tax credits, exemptions from import duties, road tolls, congestion charges and registration fees. These one-time incentives are a key component in making EVs more affordable.
In addition, dealers can provide support to customers and their communities with the installation of EV charging infrastructure. For example, GM is working with Francis Energy to install 40,000 public Level 2 chargers by 2026 through its Dealer Community Charging Program. The program aims to bring a wide network of EV chargers to communities, as well as increase awareness and education about EVs and the importance of charging.
