Electric City Vehicles Cars Power

A shift toward electric vehicles would be a big step forward in bringing our country to 100% clean energy, and we have to do it fast. But that requires a complete revamp of the way we power our homes, businesses, and cars.

Electric vehicles use electricity as their main fuel and are cleaner to run than gasoline-powered cars or trucks. The electricity they use is generated from a wide range of sources, including wind, solar, and nuclear.

They also use regenerative braking, which captures the kinetic energy in the brakes and uses it to recharge their batteries. This saves on fuel costs and can reduce emissions by more than 50 percent over a typical gas-powered vehicle’s lifespan.

But EVs still need electricity to power the battery, and that comes from the grid or utility. Utilities are working on programs to optimize charging so that EVs charge up when it’s the cheapest and most plentiful.

The goal is to lower a driver’s bill by as much as 70 percent when they use optimized charging.

As we move closer to a zero-emissions future, automakers are getting ready to power many of the millions of new cars and light trucks on the road with electricity. That means a massive shift for our nation’s electricity producers and grid managers.

These changes will make it easier for Americans to go electric and reduce our carbon footprint. They will also give our economy a boost and create good jobs at home.
