Electric City Vehicles Power the Future
EVs offer a great way to reduce your climate impact, especially if they are powered by renewable energy. But if we keep relying on fossil fuels to run the grid, electric cars will be less effective as a tool for cutting emissions.
For that reason, Earthjustice is fighting in court to require that at least a certain percentage of new vehicles sold in California be zero-emissions vehicles by 2025. We’re also working to expand charging infrastructure, both through workplaces (as in this case at Tesla) and centralized stations for public use.
The first spec shoppers fix on when considering an electric car is its EPA-rated range, and that’s understandable. The range determines whether the vehicle is right for your commute and road trips, and it can vary depending on factors like weather extremes and your charging habits.
But it’s important to consider other factors, too. For example, the efficiency of an EV’s drivetrain and battery pack can make it more or less expensive to operate. And with prices falling for the latest models and more financing options designed specifically for EVs, now is a great time to shop around. To help, the US Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center offers a comprehensive comparison tool that lets you plug in your driving needs and budget to more than 30 different electric vehicle models.
