Electrifying transportation, or electric city vehicles (EVs), is a way to reduce carbon emissions while integrating clean energy and improving quality of life. It’s also a critical part of the transition toward a low-carbon society.
The best electric cars can cover over 100 miles on a single charge. They can also be charged at home, or even at work, if they have access to a charging station.
Some electric cars have fast charging capabilities, which means they can be charged in 30 minutes or less. However, the range of these vehicles is still limited compared to gas-powered vehicles.
The NYC Department of Transportation is working with partners to expand public charging in New York City. As part of the demonstration project, 120 Level 2 chargers will be installed across the city. These hubs will be located in city-owned public parking lots. They will feature up to four DC fast chargers, and customers can pay by tapping their smartphone.
The Electrifying New York plan calls for a minimum of 1000 curbside charge points in 2025. That number represents a major commitment to the future of EVs. The DOT’s plan is outlined in eight initiatives that will increase the amount of public charging throughout the city.
The Electrifying New York initiative will help make New York City a national leader in the EV transformation. It’s an ambitious effort that includes eight goals, including the installation of 120 Level 2 chargers at public parking lots.
