Electric City Vehicles Are Changing the Way We Drive

With their long-range, fast acceleration, and high fuel economy, electric cars are becoming increasingly popular in cities around the world. Their energy-efficient design makes them less expensive to operate and maintain than gas-powered cars, and their low emissions can help reduce the cost of carbon pollution.

EVs can be charged using wallboxes, public charging stations or even on-site solar panels. They’re also available with a variety of advanced driver-assist technologies that can make driving more convenient and safer than before.

Charging Times

A full charge in most EVs takes around 30 kilowatt hours, or the same amount of electricity used by an average American home. To charge faster, drivers can connect their EVs to wallboxes or fast chargers that are installed at strategic locations such as shopping malls and tourist attractions.

Electricity Demand

As more EVs are sold, it will be important to ensure that the country’s grid can handle the load. Utilities must be prepared to quickly ramp up production of electricity when needed, to keep up with demand.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides $7.5 billion to build America’s first national network of EV charging. It also supports advanced batteries, clean transportation, and dozens of other critical infrastructure projects that drive the growth of domestic manufacturing and build America’s green economy.
