As battery-powered vehicles become more common, some experts have warned they may strain electric grids, degrading batteries faster and reducing their range. But many energy experts say that will be less of a problem than it sounds.

Ford GM Power Manufacturing

To ensure that it has the necessary supply of batteries to meet demand, Ford is partnering with a Chinese battery manufacturer to build its own lithium-iron-phosphate plant in Michigan. The company expects to produce enough batteries to power 600,000 cars by 2026 and enough more to support a million electric vehicles by 2030.

Tesla

While Tesla is still in its infancy, the electric car maker has already made a significant impact on sales. Its popular Model S and X offer long EPA-rated ranges, while its new Taycan sedan offers even greater efficiency in both base and GTS guises. The slick-looking Taycan has a 93.4-kWh pack that can deliver up to 246 miles of combined EPA-rated range. While that’s less than some competing models, its streamlined design and premium feel help it stand out from the crowd.
