Electric city vehicles, or ECVs, are vehicles powered by electricity, instead of gas. These vehicles were first made in the early 1900s and have been around for a few years now. They have an electric motor and drive shaft that are fixed to a single case. The transmission case includes a low gear for emergency use and a small gear cluster for reverse. However, while early electric cars worked well, they were too expensive and uneconomical to be used on long distances.
Electric vehicles typically have a shorter driving range than conventional vehicles, but they are becoming more affordable as technology advances. A typical EV can travel about 100 miles between charges, although newer models can travel over 200 miles. A full recharge of an EV’s battery pack can take three to twelve hours. However, some EVs have a “fast charge” system that allows a driver to charge up to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.
Choosing the right electric vehicle depends on your lifestyle. If you drive a lot, a PHEV may be right for you. You can use the EV Explorer website to compare the different vehicles and calculate the total cost of fuel based on your commute, frequency of travel, and charger access.
