The best electric cars are well-appointed and comfortable with a premium feel. They are also quiet and have quick acceleration, due to their efficient electric motors that don’t require complex transmissions or need to build revs. And regenerative braking uses the car’s wheels to recapture energy as electricity, further reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Ford GM Power Manufacturing
The Blue Oval continues to expand its electric offerings. Earlier this year, Ford began construction on its largest EV factory yet, in the U.S. state of Michigan, which will be able to churn out 500,000 EVs per year. This plant is expected to be fully operational in 2025. Besides its new MachE SUV, the company has also launched smaller EV-only models and plug-in hybrids.
If you’re thinking about purchasing an EV, be sure to know how much range you need. Most EVs can get you around town on one charge, though longer road trips will require a little planning. And while EVs are more expensive than gas-powered cars, tax incentives help offset initial sticker shock. Some states are also experimenting with ways to balance electric demand on the grid by incentivizing charging during off-peak hours or making peak charging more expensive.
