New York City Sets Ambitious Goals For EV Adoption
Electrified vehicles, such as electric cars, are becoming a popular choice. The benefits of these vehicles are clear. They reduce carbon emissions, don’t produce exhaust emissions, and are quiet at low speeds. Compared to gas-powered cars, they also save money. They are easier to drive and recharge. And because they have fewer moving parts, they are more durable.
While EVs are not yet as widely available as gas-powered cars, the trend is moving in the right direction. As more manufacturers develop new models, the share of electric vehicles in the market will continue to increase.
New York City is setting ambitious goals for EV adoption. Under the Electrifying New York plan, there will be at least ten Level 2 charging ports installed at curbside locations in each of the five boroughs by the end of 2030. In addition, the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) is working with partners to expand public charging throughout the city.
The current public charging network is too small. It is located primarily in Manhattan. In addition, the existing chargers are over-concentrated in Manhattan.
NYC DOT is working to expand public charging, and is building a network of fast chargers throughout the city. These chargers can recharge electric cars in about 20 minutes.
The Electrifying New York plan outlines eight initiatives to increase public charging. Some of these include installing 120 Level 2 charging stations at curbside locations throughout the city. Other charging stations will be placed in city-owned public parking lots.
