In downtown Detroit, a stretch of blacktop will soon be electrified–the first public road in the United States to provide wireless charging for electric vehicles. Designed by Israeli company Electreon and the Michigan Department of Transportation, the roadway is set to debut next year.

Amid the rising cost of energy, Detroit automakers are investing more than ever in electric cars and trucks. At least two plants are already struggling to meet production goals, and new state and federal incentives promise to encourage even more Americans to switch from fossil fuel vehicles to EVs.
