While electric vehicles are more expensive than gas-powered models, they are more efficient and require less maintenance. Electric Vehicle (EV) ownership also reduces your carbon footprint significantly by reducing air pollutants, including ozone precursors and particulate matter, from traditional internal combustion engine cars and trucks.
EVs produce zero emissions when they are recharged using clean energy from the grid. However, the electricity used for recharging EVs can come from a variety of sources, including fossil fuels. Earthjustice attorneys are working to ensure that EVs can be powered by 100% clean energy, and that electric vehicle drivers know where their cars’ energy is coming from.
Adding more public charging stations, in shopping centers and parking garages, at workplaces, and homes will help more people to make the switch. This includes renters and other people without access to dedicated parking or the ability to install home charging infrastructure.
The Biden Climate Recovery Act is accelerating the deployment of public and private EV charging infrastructure, and boosting EV sales with a wide range of incentives, including tax credits, to reduce the upfront purchase cost of EVs for consumers. The National Electric Vehicle Initiative is committing to building out a coast-to-coast network of fast chargers, and ensuring that every community has the infrastructure it needs to support the growing EV market. And companies like Redwood Materials are committing to scaling production of critical battery components in the U.S., bolstering domestic jobs and contributing to the President’s goal of 5 million EVs on the road by 2030.
