Electric City Vehicles Cars Power
Electric City Vehicles Cars Power
Electric vehicles (EVs) are rapidly becoming the hottest new thing in transportation. They’re cheaper to own and drive, more fuel efficient, and less polluting than gasoline cars. They also come with some unique features that a gas-powered car doesn’t have.
EVs are gaining widespread recognition as a key element in smart cities, where they’re used to power everything from public transportation to energy-efficient homes and businesses. They help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and can serve as a bridge to a low-carbon future.
The Big Three American carmakers — General Motors, Ford and Stellantis (the company that last year absorbed Chrysler) — each have committed to ramp up production of EVs. Each plans to produce up to 30 EVs per year by 2025.
They need to source sufficient battery materials from domestic producers to get access to tax credits for selling them, so automakers are making big moves in that direction. GM has already announced it will buy enough lithium-ion battery cells to build more than 600,000 electric cars and Stellantis plans to provide enough materials for five million EVs in the United States by 2023 to 2030.
Franchise dealers, too, are getting ready for a wave of electric-powered cars. They’re focusing on training their salespeople to be able to answer customer questions about EVs, and they’re preparing their service technicians to handle the challenges of working on them.
Investing in EV Charging: NYC DOT is building a network of fast chargers in New York City-owned parking lots and garages, as well as a broader system that will enable drivers to charge at home.
