A hydrogen car is an alternative fuel car that makes use of hydrogen fuel as motive power. Hydrogen cars and other such transportation vehicles make use of hydrogen to burn fuel. Hydrogen is widely available and is easily synthesized in the lab under appropriate conditions. There are many benefits associated with the use of hydrogen. The following are some of the reasons that have made hydrogen cars a hot favorite among automobile enthusiasts.

Hydrogen cars offer much better fuel mileage than the conventional fuel powered cars. Even the diesel cars show better fuel mileage, but there is one major drawback associated with them – they emit polluting carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. Even the hybrid cars show less fuel mileage, while the electric cars use electricity from the batteries to run the engine. However, hydrogen powered cars use a combustible fuel to burn fuel and do not emit harmful carbon monoxide. Hence, it is considered to be the best of the alternatives to the conventional engines.
Another major benefit associated with using hydrogen cars is that there is no chance of an air leak in the engine of the car, which leads to dangerous emissions. The fuel system of the hydrogen car runs purely on hydrogen and does not require any external fuel source for running. As a result, there is also no chance of an oil leak or drips in the engine. This results in significant savings of money and time.
Hybrids and plug-in hybrids are not able to overcome the fuel mileage disadvantage faced by the normal cars. Hydrogen powered cars can reach up to 90 miles per gallon. This is significantly higher than the gas-powered cars. Hence, it proves to be an efficient and cheap alternative to gasoline-driven cars. It also helps in reducing traffic congestion.
Hydrogen cars use energy stored in water to generate electricity, instead of gasoline. This makes it highly efficient. This means that the cars use up only half the amount of gasoline to run. Hydrogen car batteries have a long life. The car will run for many years without having to worry about changing the battery or replacing it.
The car mileage is greatly increased with the use of hydrogen cars. Even though it is quite costly at the beginning, when you go for a hybrid or plug-in hybrid version you save considerably more. It reduces emission and running costs drastically. Thus, it is one of the most cost effective and environment-friendly options.
It has been found that the car owners who have installed these cars are able to cut their fuel expenses. They have also realized the advantages of fuel economy and are going for it. Hydrogen cars are therefore the best solution to the increasing fuel price and are set to revolutionize the transportation sector.
Hydrogen cars do not produce any pollution at all. In fact, there is very less pollution in a hydrogen powered car as compared to a non-oxide driven car. The hydrogen is contained within the aluminum frame of the hydrogen car. The entire procedure to convert hydrogen into usable energy is very simple and can be easily understood by people having no experience in this field. With the rising gas prices and a dire need to conserve resources, hydrogen cars are certainly going to play a vital role in the future.
There are two main types of these cars gasoline/electric hybrid and the gasoline/diesel hybrid. In the case of the gasoline/diesel hybrid, the engine runs on a combination of gasoline and oxygen. This provides better fuel economy. However, it has been found that the power of the car is reduced when it is run on hydrogen. So, in this case one has to opt for an alternative source of power which should be more reliable than the other.
The hybrid cars run on a combination of gasoline and both the hydrocarbons. These cars are better than the electric cars, as they are more fuel efficient and offer better mileage. Hybrid cars use small engines and batteries, so they are very economical. But the biggest disadvantage of the electric cars is that they require a stronger source of power which cannot be bought in abundant quantities.
Although hydrogen cars are better than electric vehicles, one cannot take it to the petrol pump. It burns water and releases no harmful gases. But the biggest disadvantage of the hydrogen car is that one cannot charge the hydrogen through the common electrical outlets. This also means that one has to bring a large tank of hydrogen with him so that he can store it. But then hydrogen is widely available and is easy to obtain.
