Sony and Honda plan to start US deliveries of their electric vehicle

Sony and Honda are partnering to produce the electric vehicle at 12 of their plants in the U.S. but are not disclosing pricing details, platform, or battery type. The aim of the collaboration is to create a car that embodies an emotionally satisfying experience when driving. The collaboration began in Japan, where electric vehicles are popular. It is expected that other markets will follow.

Level 3 autonomy

The new vehicle will have level 3 autonomous driving technology, allowing the driver to pay more attention to content. The new technology includes sensors, cloud services and onboard controllers. Honda plans to sell about 800,000 of the EVs in North America. Sony plans to provide the software and sensors for the level 3 autonomy.

The joint venture between the two companies will develop the hardware and software required for Level 3 automated drive under certain conditions, presumably highways. However, it will also enable Level 2+ driver assistance in more situations. The hardware will include a high-performance SoC1 with a total processing power of over 800 TOPS2.

The new vehicle will also feature digital innovations and connect to the metaverse. The vehicle will begin pre-orders in early 2025 and sales will start later that year. The car will be available in Japan and the U.S. in spring 2026.

Interior infotainment tech

Honda and Sony have announced a strategic alliance to produce electric vehicles. The first vehicles are expected to arrive in the U.S. in 2026. The two companies will work together on interior infotainment technology. Both companies will create the software that runs the infotainment systems. They will also provide imaging technology.

The new venture is a preemptive strike against Apple. Both companies are planning to begin EV production in 2025, with pre-orders opening in the first half of that year. They also plan to start selling their electric vehicles in the U.S., as well as Japan. The companies plan to deliver their premium electric vehicles with automated driving features in 2026.

The new company will manufacture the cars at one of Honda’s 12 production facilities in the United States. While the cars won’t be sold in mass volumes, the two automakers are planning to develop a ecosystem that revolves around the new technology. The ecosystem could include an open community and various digital products and services.

Price range

Sony and Honda have announced plans to develop electric vehicles in the future. The companies expect to start taking pre-orders for the vehicles as early as 2025 and to begin deliveries in the United States in early 2026. While the two companies haven’t provided details on the model or the price range, they say they are on track to meet their goals.

The two companies will combine their engineering and technology strengths in a new joint venture. The new company will focus on creating mobility solutions with innovative software. It will combine Honda’s automotive manufacturing and engineering expertise with Sony’s imaging, sensing, telecommunication, and entertainment expertise. Its goal is to create new mobility services and products that will enhance the lives of people around the world.

Both companies will initially launch their products in the US and Japan, where they are both based. After that, Europe and other markets will follow. In addition to the car components, Sony will also provide a wide variety of software and entertainment, including infotainment systems and sensors for automated driving. Sony’s library of content will be used to develop these systems and services.
