This video was brought to you by Marcus Be elmech a planner Stone bike camp Power and be Component yo what's up we are now at all Is actually right right nearby where I Used to live before uh and today we're Going to check out this Viking this is a Flat but I don't know what you call it But it's a it's a rescue truck and it's Fully electric it's SC and we will join Them now on a couple of trips so yeah Let's get going because there's a Customer some some stranded customer who Needs our help as you guys expected it's It's it's very quiet in here except for That there's a there's walkietalkie There's some radio there listening to But so uh the customer here is uh at uh It's a hongi we're going to l f uh not Too far from here around 10 minutes from Here and then with battery was at um how Many 4 Sho this car okay this truck now uh a Colleague has used it previously so it's At 47% Battery I'm not sure if I can see Anything of that but I can show the okay Oh okay I see there let me see if I can Zoom in there you see is that 46% um and it's- 6° C outside so um but There's a supposedly hongi that is Drivable but probably at low juice I'm Not sure what's up with that one we'll Find out and I also have to ask
The customer beforehand because they Don't know we are coming yeah you know They could be like uh no don't film me Or they could be like yo yo B Tesla BJ You're Here but it's a cold day today and you See this one is probably the most uh Useful equipment nowadays it's a Freaking 12vt booster lately I've been Running into ionic with low low 12vt I Mean dead 12vt leave with dead 12vt so Um show in the cab what is it oh there's A rest resting place here in the cabin See you can you can oh oh it's a Mattress so yeah um this car has 297 KW Battery it has around 250 km range you See there's some radio stuff over there Here you can put your TPS reports uh Plenty of space and this one runs on 24 Volt and there's some communication Equipment over There cooler huh cooler cooler oh cooler Box wow Nice uh maybe you can have some alcohol Free Beer so yeah and well I mean I have been In a truck before and they are just Noisy this one is nice and quiet now Let's since we are just um driving Anyway I talk uh to another guy here About the whole spec and and also the Prices um you know they call it um uh What do it called again yeah but it's It's a rescue
Truck flock be ponos okay they call it In Norwegian they call it flock Bill uh Because flock means like a flat thing Right so um um oh no we overtaken by an Electric bus I think this is V it's not Is it BD yeah EF AF Yeah everything is electric over here You see Tesla that's that's a byd truck bus over There yeah it's many many trucks sorry Many electric cars um interesting he Choose to take this ah this is probably Faster than going but but okay okay when It comes to the the the price a diesel Truck cost around 2.5 million no Two yeah around 2.5 million look by the Way that's Hans I forgot to introduce uh Hans he will just do the driving uh There's not much she need to say Anyway uh 2.5 million Nook for uh a Diesel around €250,000 But this one cost around 7.5 million nuk Three times more now in Nova they they Give some some incentive Support and but then you still end up With 5.5 million nuk so you can buy two Diesel trucks for this one and the range Is not that great but uh as you will see Uh these rescue trucks they don't drive That much they are mostly just Stationary uh trying to help someone Getting stuck with a 12 or something Um but it's a little bit different than
Than uh typical you know cargo trucks Because cargo trucks they drive they Haul stuff and they are heavy uh but They have bigger battery but they are Under the resting uh and driving and Resting our hours you know you can drive 4 and 1 half hours you have to rest 45 Minutes and you can keep driving then it Makes more sense to use an electric Truck here I'm not sure because hun Doesn't have to take the mandatory rest Stop like a trucker they are exempt from That so and also sometimes when it's Really busy um they might want to run The truck 24/7 you know this I mean this It's a it's a rescue company they could Be follow anything happen happening at Any time of the day and if it's really Busy then the drucks might go 24/7 so You know as much as I would like to Support electric Electrification I'm not sure if this Makes any sense it's very expensive the The fuel prices I mean the fuel cost on These trucks might not be that much of The fer diesel one This okay every two days he will refuel Diesel uh do a ton L 150 l so that means 75 L per Day Diesel okay okay so yeah typically Diesel trucks you have the the the the Truck idling when I've seen it every Time I get rescued by a diesel truck but
Um yeah so this time we rescuing uh An EV you know I I need to hopefully we Can find a fossil car that we rescue With electric Truck we have right at the location and Uh yeah so I had to wear this jacket It's for safety HMS uh and also nice and Warm and then yeah by the way because It's so freaking cold outside I'm Wearing storm bag this is wool nice and Warm this one is not too warm but it's All like all season but also wearing Some nice uh uh pants also from storb Nice and warm also the shoes of a Storing bag so it's okay now when it Comes to that one so yeah um he's Preparing now the flat bed and here's The customer car uh he said it's okay to Film Him but it not film him I mean not film The car but not film him so yeah the car Is drivable I wonder what's wrong uh you I heard I heard it that it cannot charge So they tried DC and AC it doesn't Charge So that's why we have to But this is a quite simple one then so You see um the whole deal is that uh he Has some kind of stuff via insurance and He if he draw it to the dealership then He cannot use the insurance uh thing or Whatever you know free rescue Whatever um because the car is drivable Supposedly to the dealership for repair
But then they have to call a tow truck And then the tow truck needs to then tow It over to the dealership and then the Whole insurance and everything applies So it's kind of a waste of resources is This what they do every Day so this truck is just parked in the Middle of the road right now but uh with The lights on yeah there's not enough Space here to pull over in some more Quiet Area and also when it comes to loading Capacity this is a 22 ton truck um but He can to he has around 7,900 something kg of capacity the hongi Weighs I don't remember around 2,500 Kilg so that's plenty and you can also Take one in the in the back there or Even to a trailer right so uh since he Is doing uh Rescue of uh just personal Transportation not trucks or anything Like that buses then the toing capacity On this uh rescue trucks they are plenty Yeah no problem at all so even though You lose a little bit when you get the The electric ones and then yeah here is 100% electric electric um roll Assistance anywhere I mean regardless of Damage Always okay now you can now now that the Thing is up we going to check it out so Here we have the battery pack it can Take 140 KW on DC And I think it has 22 Kow onboard
Charger you can see some of the stuff Over there and you see all the the Orange stuff yeah high Voltage so it's uh probably just a Regular Scania truck that have been uh Uh retrofitted into electric but at Least it's on the road unlike some other Um American company that starts with a t And ends with an A you you notice one thing which is that Uh he's doing the whole rescue thing now Uh the 12 Vault and stuff stuff is uh Active uh in case he needs to maybe use The winch or I don't know what else they Have there some uh uh the compressor or You know the the yeah Hydraulics but the car is the truck is Idling and it's quiet and it's not Polluting like yeah so maybe we need Better incentives or we need cheaper Trucks to make it uh uh cost efficient Well we off now and uh we have to drive Only to um back to arw area uh yeah you Guys hongi theur it's nearby uh again Where we started from so we just have Short distances to drive around 10 Minutes uh 10 kilm roughly uh but uh This truck can go as far as yes Sometimes no gardan area that's in the North side and also Uh yeah toward shei south of Oso but There are then other road assistance uh Covering those places but for some Reason sometimes yeah uh if the yes him
Area doesn't cover it then they can go That Far oh it's a bit hard to see this Pedometer but we're cruising at around 60 km/ hour now and then we're down to 32% batter so the screen is really hard To see from here and I have to I can't I Have to sit here but yeah so you see There's a lot of driving on ring what The heck you need to woman you need to [Laughter] Accelerate but there's a lot of driving Around city and also Ring Road so unlike Trucks like Long Haul trucks they can Cruise at 80 well legally 80 they tend To cruise at 88 uh this one is mostly just cruising At 50 60 70 km per hour uh but I want The consumption numbers huh would like To see what kind of consumption numbers Uh is is the increased weight Here uh also increased in consumption That much uh and it's the increased Consumption as high as if we would drive The hongi because hongi is a freaking Thirsty Beast so yeah now we on us arway not That much traffic yet around 1 or 2 in The afternoon now on the week We are on Mot yeah unloading Hongi and then the customer will get the Loner yeah so that's the first mission Let see if I climb up it I can see
Better um let's see Here it has a we're down to 29% it estimates 59 km range and it Actually measures also the weight of What we had there there it was Displaying 2.9 tons which is quite close Because uh I have weighed 2.8 tons and It was a total weight of the car or the Truck also I can't see any consumption Numbers uh he's a little bit uh not Familiar with the truck yet a driver so Sorry for the beeping there's some stuff Beeping here I need to this again so That was the first mission yeah and then He has more missions already waiting in Cure and of course if uh someone else is Ready I mean other uh trucks diesel Trucks then they will just grab it so The customer doesn't have to wait too Long but this is the only SC this the only rescue truck that Viking has so it's like a trial what They're doing Now this is a bit Tricky but we have 27% battery Left 54 km range left um so the driver Remember he called the the the pool and Asked there was an there was a there was A task around a uway which is nearby Here and then going to lrm so it's just Local um not sure how far we need to Drive U maybe it would have been okay But we don't want to take a chance and Then the theot said or the the central
Uh they said no just go charge yeah Because uh it didn't we didn't start With 100% this this morning we started With 50% so they see this is the Struggle struggle is real but that's Cool because we can then see the Charging will it callgate or will we get 140 KW H we're going to go to S okay this is this is the challenge uh What wow so K they have so many charges But uh uh do we have space though uh I Wonder if this is some 800 volt stuff uh Can be even charged at cam Power uh because can we squeeze it in The over there or is it The Okay 250 this is this is 250 cm wide so Um yeah um and I talked to so K about This and uh they say that they want To PR oh yeah they have Burger and Waffle How half price are they no but so okay They want to make dedicated truck Chargers and they we already have that In uh vbag you Know uh and uh also somewhere out of Outside y but for some reason in Norway Where we need them not Weeden then we Don't have it so I don't know what is The the driver Hunt is over There uh he's looking for something so Yeah now we are down to 24% so you See we we could have taken a a task but We couldn't because we didn't have

5.5 KW it's been charging for over 1 Hour uh okay and then this one 100 30 Kow so it seems like um wait can I get The bigger one no I think I need the the Card yeah I need the card okay but wait There's no back button either yeah but What this is chel okay but uh what now I Wonder what the the driver does when we Are charging now does it go inside eat Or does it just chill here H okay we look at the cars display and This doesn't make any sense at all it Claims 11.2 KW hour but or in other Terms um 112 wat hour per Kilometer there's no way it can consume That little it should be almost 10 times More at least uh I don't know 5 600 wat Hour per kilm and then we have also the Other one that that's yeah kilowatt hour Per hour uh but uh 27.8 KW Um I'm not sure what it Means but okay um we are 28% now we Probably need to charge about half half An hour it's uh it's almost 2: in the Afternoon and then Hans works until 3:00 So yeah we will charge a little bit uh So we can take one more uh Mission and Then yeah Hans will be done for the day Okay here you see the driving score so Hans is a really efficient driver and Even though he's not even an EV driver Uh he drives fossil but 99% efficiency Maybe the consumption was correct there
But also and then the other one there 65% that's um I think going too close to The car in Front Okay maybe there's been some Congestion Driving and then uh yeah you see on the Top there that one shows that uhuh what Is that uh 13.5 Ton uh that's the weight of the car oh Okay oh and you see if we will be on the Road trip I will of course go to the gas Station pee uh grab some burger for half Price uh but um uh Hans and I we just Had lunch not long time ago and we've Been working or hardly working for just Uh a couple hours so that's why we we Just sitting Here maybe I'll just go in there and Grab something because uh yeah I feel Like having some food but um all right We have 50% but you see we charge for Almost half an hour and the voltage goes Up slowly so we're taking 133 kilowatt Now Yeah I mean this is uh a almost 300 KW Battery so you know SC they could have Allow more amps and let the car charge At 300 350 KW that would have been way Better but also the problem is that uh At Viking they don't have charging Infrastructure yet but at least uh Hans Told me that when they start with 100% Battery he can usually go an 8 hour
Shift Without recharging and he can take Somewhere between six and 10 uh TS Around here and most of the time he's Not driving much he's unloading loading Cars and uh the truck is just standing Still using almost no energy anyway uh But I learned that uh the state of Charge scale is nonlinear here so he Says that when it's at near 100% it Drops quite slowly so I was like ah so When we started with 47 or the 46% today It was more like maybe 40% energy you Know and that's why so yeah you get a Little bit wrong impression of the whole Situation but as long as Viking they Have charting infrastructure at the Depot or the station whatever they call It then uh it should be a lot better and We didn't have to recharge and they were Just they could also recharge uh at the The the pool when they had the lunch Break you know but here there's another Uh truck charging This is Volvo yeah you see wait is a is a what Kind of truck is This yeah this this type of truck so uh Plenty of electric trucks Here but uh my uh impression from this So far is that the trucks need to charge Faster like scoto and uh we need better Charing infrastructure like c k or other Uh places or we on the we charged to
58% uh only and yeah uh Hans didn't Bother wait there A that's a stranded vehicle here is that A k wait that's that's uh was that no That's not Viking that's some okay but Yeah so um we will actually just go uh Call it the day so yeah it's um uh um 2:30 in the afternoon now and Hans is Working to three only so um yeah I mean We are now traveling back to the the Station or they call he he call the Station I just call it the Poo for some Reason at least I got um a waffle so I Will eat that one and now we got a Little glimpse of how it works with the Electric uh what do you call it electric Uh flat bed or something yeah they call It bing speed well there are several Names for It okay we're back to the starting Position so here is where they're going To put some Chargers I mean charging Station AC only ideally want to have DC But that would be way too expensive uh Is is still going to cost a lot to Install something here they need also a Shra what they call a Transformer to Transform there's no 400 volt here it's Only 230 volts so they have to do the Transformation and and pull some Cables and dig and stuff but it's going To be better of course so yeah the the Transporter guy by the way he said that This one is not a big fan of it it's too
Tall Um yeah uh he prefers this one here has A slightly lower loading capacity 4,000 Kg roughly but it's it's lower and it's Way more and it's he is quite Nimble H Said this very Nimble you can drive it Almost like a personal car private know Small car and see wiking they also have Some electric cars the smaller cars that They use for well smaller task so it Depends if the customer only has for Example 12vt problem or maybe stuck Brakes they don't need the the big truck And uh you see we have one Volvo xt40 Here there's another one that might be Out and also here we have huh a Toyota B Set 4X and they also have a SCA enok so They have four electric cars uh what is Important for Viking is that they choose Uh with good uh what you call it head uh All wheeel drive very important good Ground clearance in case they have to go Somewhere to help someone who is stuck Or some like that and yeah and then They they uh for these cars uh I can Show you that they you already have Regular AC charging spots you know uh These are way cheaper to buy and to Maintain and the the the whole economics Around these cars are of course better And also the Practical use with you know You know we have plenty of range and Also with the Toyota B they going to Drive on 1,000 km challenge it works

The number of Electric City Vehicles Cars Power on the road has jumped 250% in five years with Teslas leading the way. But are they money savers or money pits?
The spec that most shoppers focus on first when considering an EV is its EPA-rated range. It’s a crucial factor in determining whether an EV is a good fit for their driving habits and the state of public charging in their area. But just as important is an EV’s efficiency, which translates to how many miles the car wrings out of the electricity stored in its battery.
Electric vehicle (EV) range is impacted by several factors, including the temperature outside and how fast the driver accelerates and decelerates. EVs are typically more efficient in city driving, which allows for frequent stops that maximize the benefits of regenerative braking, while highway travel requires more energy to overcome increased drag at higher speeds. Additionally, rapid acceleration can dramatically reduce an EV’s range.
EVs are often more compact than their ICE counterparts due to the lack of space needed for a large gas engine and transmission. They also have a lower center of gravity and evenly distributed weight thanks to the “skateboard” layout that positions the battery pack underneath the chassis. These features help EVs handle well on the road and expertly maneuver through twists and turns. In addition, EVs generate significantly less pollution compared to gas-powered vehicles over their lifetime.
