If you want an electric car, the DeLorean Alpha5 may be the car for you. The company is targeting a 100-kWh battery pack for the car. It has dual motor all-wheel drive and a top speed of 155 mph. The car accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.99 seconds, and it can reach an 88-mile range in just 4.35 seconds. The company is also targeting a Model line-up of four different electric cars.
0-60 mph (0-100 kph) time of 3.4 seconds
The DeLorean Motor Company revealed plans to introduce an all-electric DeLorean at the New York Auto Show last October. President Stephen Wynne confirmed the car’s early 2013 release date and an estimated asking price of $95,000. He also confirmed the 32kWh battery pack and the car’s 125 mph top speed.
Range of more than 300 miles
The DMC Alpha5 will be powered by a 100 kWh battery pack and will have a range of more than 300 miles. That would put it ahead of the Porsche Taycan 4S and the Audi e-tron GT. However, it won’t be sold on the public market; it will be a limited run of 88 cars, designed for track use.
The first Alpha5 model will be a four-seater with gullwing doors and an 0-60 mph time of less than four seconds. It is still unveiled, but it will be unveiled to the public at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. While the production version of this car will only be for track use, the company will tweak it for the general public in the coming years.
The DeLorean Alpha5 will have a 100 kWh battery pack, which means the car will have a range of over 300 miles or 482km. The vehicle’s drivability is an impressive factor, with a drag coefficient of 0.23 and a 0-60 mph time of just 2.99 seconds. The car’s top speed is 155 mph, which is better than 125 mph. With a range of more than 300 miles, the Alpha5 is bound to be a hit.
Model line-up
The new DeLorean Alpha5 model line-up is a reference to the famous Back to the Future movie. The Alpha5 is expected to hit 0 to 88 mph in just four seconds. With a 100kWh battery pack and drag coefficient of 0.23, the Alpha5 could have a range of up to 480 kilometers. However, it is not yet clear whether this car will enter production. The automaker has scheduled a live unveiling of the Alpha5 model line-up on Tuesday.
In November 1974, the DeLorean Motor Company teamed up with Italian design firm Italdesign to develop a new rear-engined sports car. The Alpha5 was designed with American customers in mind, and will make its debut in the US at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. A second live stream will be held 16 hours later.
The Alpha5 shares many of the design features of its gas-powered predecessor. The body has gull-wing doors, and the rear window has a louvered appearance. While the car lacks a flux capacitor, the design is still reminiscent of the original DeLorean. The car also has a 2+2 seating layout. The car may even look at home in the Lucid Motors portfolio.
