Future Transportation

In the present period, the transportation industry, indeed all sectors, are undergoing tremendous changes. One such change is the arrival of new technologies, which promise to change the very nature of transportation. These new technologies, along with advanced infrastructure, are being implemented around the world, in both the developed and developing countries. The result is that while some countries benefit from this growth, others are lagging behind, notably in terms of efficiency and in safety.

Policy makers have debated over what kind of response would be appropriate to this change in the transportation industry. They have debated whether or not the costs involved in implementing the new technologies, along with the associated risks, are worth it. There are also arguments over the impact these technologies will have on the environment. However, no one has yet come up with an adequate response to the challenges presented by this technological revolution. Only time will tell, with so much uncertainty about what the ramifications of the emerging technologies will be.

While governments are debating and making policies regarding the introduction of new transportation technologies, private interests are investing in research to develop new transportation systems. Businesses and companies have been investing in the development of new transportation technologies for years, as well as in other fields. One of the most important areas of research in this field has been in autonomous vehicle technology. There are serious debates currently underway concerning the future of the transportation industry, including the introduction of self-driving vehicles, and whether or not these vehicles will threaten the established automotive industries.

Another area of great interest is the prospects for advances in the highly innovative Hyperloop transportation systems. Developed by high-tech California based companies, the Hyperloop is a system that uses a series of tunnels to move the pods through low pressure systems. Proponents of the system believe that the system will provide an alternative method of transporting pods via low-pressure systems that will eliminate the need for trucking. Proponents of the system hope that the Hyperloop will provide an entirely new way of moving freight and passengers in a more cost effective manner. These systems may well represent the most significant advances in the transportation industry since the introduction of the internal combustion engine.

Many transportation experts believe that there is a significant risk that the introduction of new technologies will lead to an increase in the frequency and severity of road accidents. This is likely to have a negative impact on both passengers and drivers. The introduction of automated androids into the passenger compartment may well reduce the chances of an accident but will also be a boon to the insurance industry. Furthermore, the widespread use of high speed and high volume courier services may lead to an increase in the demand for insurance policies. This could exacerbate the economic growth and employment potential of the transportation sector.
