Electric City Vehicles Cars Power
Electric vehicles are rapidly gaining ground as an alternative to traditional gasoline-fueled cars and trucks. These greener cars reduce greenhouse gases, air pollution and tailpipe emissions while improving public health and safety.
EVs offer more range on a single charge than gasoline-powered vehicles, reducing fuel costs for drivers. They also have the advantage of flexible charging because a charger can be located at home, work or at public locations when a vehicle needs to recharge.
New York’s DOT has launched an electric vehicle charging program that will allow EV owners to charge their vehicles at designated parking spaces throughout the city. These parking spaces are available to all NYC EV drivers and can be used for up to four hours per day.
The Electricity Grid
If every car on the road ran entirely on electricity, a team of researchers at the University of Texas estimated that it would require a 17% increase in the state’s electricity production. This would help meet rising demand and keep rates down.
A number of states, including Colorado and Washington, have policies in place to incentivize the purchase of electric vehicles. In Wyoming, for example, Efficiency Maine offers rebates on EVs, and the state has an EV charging network in place that includes free charging stations.
GM Power Manufacturing
General Motors is investing heavily in electric vehicles. It has developed the Ultium platform, a flexible battery architecture that allows GM to create several models of EVs with a variety of driving needs.
