Electric City Vehicles Cars Power
A lot is happening in the electric-vehicle world. Tesla is working to make cars that are fully electric, while Ford has made a major push into the sector and recently produced its first battery-electric model.
GM is also making major moves into EVs, with new plug-in models expected to hit the market by 2025. Its shift is driven by a partnership with Honda, who shares technology and engineering with the Detroit automaker.
BMW is betting on EVs with the i3 and i3 Sport. Both cars offer unique styling, and they’re affordable.
Mercedes-Benz is making a big move into EVs, too. Its C-Class is one of the most popular small cars in the world, and it’s available with an EV option.
Toyota’s executive team has been very clear that EVs aren’t a core part of the brand, but it is experimenting with them. It’s not clear whether that’s a strategic move to gain a foothold in the EV market or simply an attempt to keep up with its competition.
Honda is aiming to sell 40% of its vehicles as EVs by 2030. It’s also partnering with BMW to build an all-electric SUV that will debut in 2025.
While many EVs are still limited in their range, they’re a great choice for short journeys around town. They’re incredibly manoeuvrable and their nippy low-speed acceleration makes them a natural fit in city centers. They are also ideal for commuting because they don’t put out emissions at the point of use.
