EVs can be less expensive than gasoline vehicles to purchase and operate over the long haul. They typically cost less to fuel than ICE cars and can reduce maintenance costs since the drivetrain has fewer moving parts. EV owners can also save on electricity rates when compared to fossil fuel prices. Additionally, the price of electric vehicle batteries continues to decline over time.

The regenerative braking setting on many EVs uses the car’s battery to capture kinetic energy and restore its charge, saving you energy while helping the environment. Electric vehicles are quieter, more efficient and produce fewer emissions than traditional internal combustion engines, which have been shown to contribute to poor air quality. EVs emit fewer ozone precursors, particulate matter and greenhouse gases (GHGs) and can improve local air quality.

Most EVs offer enough range to drive most commuters to and from work on one charge. For longer trips, a number of models now offer 200+ miles of driving range. And for those times when the range is low, most EVs warn drivers before they run out of power and can be connected to a fast charger at a gas station or in a garage/driveway. Some EVs, like the Tesla Model S, even come with roadside assistance that can tow you home or to a charging station. Additionally, EVs are allowed to use restricted express lanes on highways and bridges, special parking spots and reduced or free tolls.
