Deciding whether to get an electric vehicle can be a big decision. Then there’s finding a charger, choosing what model, and thinking about the various tax breaks. Then you’ve got to plan for how much it will cost to fuel and maintain your EV over its lifetime.

With the arrival of the new generation of electric vehicles, we’re seeing manufacturers invest more and more in battery and charging systems. Ford, for example, is building a massive $5.6 billion campus in Stanton, Tenn., to reimagine the way its vehicles and batteries are made.

The plant will be vertically integrated and designed for carbon neutrality once it’s fully operational. The campus will also host a new EV factory that will build and assemble the expanded lineup of F-Series electric vehicles, as well as a BlueOval SK battery facility and key suppliers.

EVs are generally cheaper to fuel than traditional cars and trucks. They’re quiet, have great acceleration and handling and lots of fun high-tech features. They use regenerative braking and have a low center of gravity to help them maneuver well and feel stable and safe in all conditions.

Having access to convenient and safe recharging at home, at work or in public spaces is an important factor for many people considering an EV. Thankfully, New York City is committed to making the switch easier for all by expanding public charging across the five boroughs. That includes growing a network of fast chargers with more than 80 plugs and equipping 20 percent of municipal parking garages and lots with Level 2 charging stations by 2025.
