As prices drop, EV ownership will reach a wider swath of the population. Many EVs are available now at price points lower than most comparable gasoline vehicles, and EVs can be even less expensive to own when factoring in the savings of not having to pay for fuel.
EVs are more reliable than traditional cars. They have fewer moving parts, are more quiet and emit significantly fewer pollutants. Electric cars don’t require the same maintenance as gas-powered vehicles and are usually cheaper to own — even when including the cost of charging infrastructure.
Electric Vehicles are also safer than traditional cars because they can’t leak or rupture like gas-powered vehicles can. They have to meet all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, and EV battery packs are designed with safety features that shut down the system in the event of a collision or short circuit.
A broader range of EVs are becoming available, and the pace is picking up. We’re seeing major auto manufacturers sharpen their electrification strategies by competing for market share rather than merely as policy compliance vehicles, and they’re pouring more resources into advertising, pricing and battery technology to make their EVs as appealing as possible. And as the demand for EVs grows, states and cities are stepping up to expand access to public charging.
