Electric City Vehicles Power Eugene
EVs are more affordable than traditional vehicles because they don’t have as many parts and can be charged for less than gas. Annual cost comparisons show significant savings. You can charge your EV at home, work or public charging stations, and some low-income drivers qualify for carpool lanes using an EV decal. EVs emit no tailpipe emissions and use clean electricity, which makes them good for the climate and your health.
Tesla Ford GM Power Manufacturing
While EV sales have been dominated by the Silicon Valley upstart, several major automakers are expanding their offerings to compete with Tesla in the fast-growing electric vehicle market. Ford and GM are working with utilities to test bidirectional charging that allows consumers to sell energy back to the grid during high-energy consumption periods.
These initiatives, combined with federal policies like the Bipartisan EV Inflation Reduction Act and investments in EV charging infrastructure, will help drive EV adoption nationwide. However, the new clean energy needed to power these cars still has to be generated — and get to where people are driving them.
To support EV growth, the City of Eugene’s EV Strategy compliments its community-wide climate recovery goals and includes specific actions to encourage EV ownership, including promoting equitable access to EVs. The City is partnering with Hertz to launch a national network of EV fast-charging stations and with nonprofits, companies and organizations such as GreenLatinos, Hip Hop Caucus, Sierra Club, Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, Clean Energy for America, Plug in America, and National Religious Partnership for the Environment to support Route Zero, a national campaign highlighting EV infrastructure and EV ownership opportunities for underserved communities.
