Electric City Vehicles Cars Power

Challenges for Electric City Vehicles

Electric vehicles (EVs) run on electrical energy stored in batteries. The electricity can come from a variety of sources: fossil fuels, nuclear power, wind turbines, and solar panels. EVs are more efficient than gasoline cars and emit less pollution. EVs are also more affordable than cars powered by internal combustion engines.

In addition to their environmental benefits, EVs can help you save on fuel costs and maintenance. Depending on where you live, you may be eligible for EV incentives like free or discounted parking spots and access to restricted express lanes.

The electric vehicle industry has made significant progress since its inception, but the world still faces challenges. EV adoption must accelerate if the world is to meet its Paris Agreement commitments to avoid climate change catastrophe.

Tesla

Tesla has led the way, but many other car makers are getting into EV production. Volkswagen has started introducing the ID series, Ford is releasing the MachE and Stellantis is bringing new smaller EV-only models to market. EV sales have increased across all segments of the car market.

The challenge is ensuring EVs can be easily charged at home and at public stations. EVs can be recharged using standard 120-volt outlets (called Level 1 charging) or through a special 240-volt outlet that’s usually used to power appliances, such as dryers and electric ovens (Level 2 charging). If you live in a multifamily building, check whether your apartment has a dedicated 240-volt plug for EV charging, and look into installing a home charger.
