We’re also fighting to expand charging infrastructure. That will help relieve one of the biggest barriers to EV ownership by providing more places to charge your car or truck, including workplace and centralized EV fast charging. And we’re working with states like California, which drives more than half of all U.S. auto sales, to defend their Zero Emissions Vehicle mandates that require 35% of new cars sold in 2026 to be ZEVs, and then ramp up to 68% of the market by 2030.
Like other cars, EVs require periodic service to replace consumables like cabin air filters, wiper blades, and tires. Many EVs also feature a special display that lets drivers check on battery health, so they’ll know when it’s time to replace their battery pack. Some EVs even have a warning that lets drivers know when they’re about to run out of range—a handy feature if you’re commuting in the high-occupancy vehicle lanes that most people use for work or school. To that end, we’re working with our partners at Earthjustice to promote a national EV Service Standard. It would set minimum standards for what EVs can be serviced for and when.
