While EVs produce less greenhouse-gas emissions than gas-powered cars, their purchase prices are still higher than comparable conventional vehicles. However, that’s expected to drop as production volumes increase and battery technology evolves. Additionally, buyers can offset those initial costs with fuel cost savings and a federal tax credit.
Tesla has built the most popular EVs on the market today, but there are other options as well. Many of them are only available in select states or require a reservation and delivery weeks or months out. But there are also EVs available that don’t break the bank, including the Volkswagen Jetta EV and Nissan Leaf.
Then there’s the slick-looking Porsche Taycan, which is available now with a 246-mile EPA-rated range in GTS form. It’s the highest of the Taycan model line, and it uses a 93.4-kWh battery pack to achieve that.
And with a number of new EVs hitting the market through 2026, there’s bound to be one to suit everyone’s tastes. One to watch is Wink Motors, which just rolled out four neighborhood electric vehicles (NEV) designed specifically for American roads. The vehicles are small, easy to park and operate, and comply with NHTSA low-speed vehicle (LSV) regulations. That makes them ideal for navigating urban streets and easing the congestion caused by bigger SUVs and trucks. And, because they run on electricity instead of gasoline, they’re quieter and cleaner than the average automobile.
