Electric City Vehicles Cars Power

EVs are smoother and quieter than gasoline cars, and they can accelerate quickly. They can also recharge much faster than gasoline vehicles, and their engines don’t need to build revs to make power, so they use less gas.

But despite the impressive performance of EVs, they aren’t without their challenges. The main one is range, or how far you can go before running out of battery. To address that, manufacturers have been improving battery technology and increasing the number of miles an EV can travel before needing to recharge.

Another big challenge is the availability of charging infrastructure. Earthjustice is working to help make it easier for people to buy EVs by ensuring that there are enough places to charge them, such as at home, in workplace parking garages, or in public chargers located in shopping centers and on streets around the city.

As the auto industry races to develop affordable electric vehicles, New York-based startup Wink Motors is introducing neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) specifically designed for American roads. Compared to the SUVs, trucks and vans that crowd our roads, Wink’s NEVs are much smaller, lighter (thanks to carbon fiber body panels) and nimbler. But they still offer the headroom, trunk space and power needed to accommodate passengers and cargo. And they’re street-legal under federal regulations for low-speed vehicles (LSVs).
