This video was brought to you by Steinberg a better world planner Mr Green Camp power and Marcus Beale Yo what's up we are now at UNO X1 and Behind me here you see Toyota Mirai yes We're gonna do it we will test me right Now for almost a week so the first video I will make is range test so this will Be interesting how to measure the range That okay I shouldn't point out that we Have winter tires how to complete the R3 Or SUV huh what the heck is this an SUV It looks like a sedon to me yeah I have Full tank now close to fully tank I need This place 362 kilometers hmm Um this Mirai is supposed to have 650 Kilometers of vltp range okay yeah we'll See then uh yeah here here you have it It's um I think this I heard from Toyota That this is um uh the interior here Comes from a Lexus so it actually feels And rides quite well so yeah and then Look at this okay you know you have the P button here But you also have the hydrogen P button Here no yolk when you use this button I Need to test it properly you dump out Water Yeah okay will be quite interesting to Do this during winter in Sub-Zero Temperatures so yeah it looks like a Regular car there's some hydrogen stuff Going on here and yeah you see the Interior by the way huh huh do you like

This let me show the rest of the Car you see seat memory electric Adjustable steering wheel Executives but Seats look in the back Wait what the heck Why do we have so little space in the Back here it feels really cramped this Car is almost five meters long well we Have bucket seats at least that's good What about isofix yeah I need to also Test that one look here Huh What is this alien technology whoa Wow okay turn it off Wait is this the shaft no it's front Wheel drive It's one of the tanks yeah the hydrogen Tanks let me show you what I'm going to Do I will do a similar thing as the Regular EV range system we need to just Refuel this thing to Max 100 percent And then we measure the distance but we Also measure the consumption so I guess I will explain eventually How I do it but we will also actually Check if we can Fit five kilograms here most likely not Toyota told me there's a Reserve yeah bottom restore but I'm not Going to count on it because if you run Out of the hydrogen what do you do do You just plug it in no I don't want to Run out of hydrogen yeah man I want to Use the P button okay anyway let's do

The preparation and then off we go Right we're off now so from here from One to uh doll I need to measure that Segment and figure out how many grams or Kilograms of hydrogen I use and then we Sum it with the other segments also so One thing I noticed with this mirror is That it's nice and comfy fairly good Soundproofing also Yeah well we have winter tires so that That's good for rough Norwegian asphalt Wait But we have style here Holy crap look at this massive traffic It's Friday afternoon and I guess all The office rats they're going to the Cabin So uh hopefully we get okay traffic off The doll if not then I'm not sure how I'm going to test 120. Because in Norwegian they are the ones Who invented left lane hugging and they Have the biggest Norwegian left lane Huggers Club so um Yeah we'll see Um We are now at eye on the doll and look At those charges huh How long does it take to charge up there Five minutes I can refuel in five minutes Only problem is there's only one place In mostly I can do it but we don't talk About that so you see we consume 1.1

Kilogram per 100 kilometer and then Here's the distance so we multiply those Two and we get the amount in kilograms Of hydrogen Yeah okay outside temperature 17 degrees Celsius actually doesn't matter too much Because okay well imagine for drug maybe But this car is so inefficient and has So much leftover heat from the system Which I hope it scavenges to heat up the Cabin so there's no need to well Actually does this car have a PTC heater At all or heat them I guess not there's Just we're left heat from the fools fuel Cell yeah so yeah my bad by the way yeah Um it is rare with drive it's not from Print driver I thought it was frontal Run but I missed Google it so we're Going to look more about this one it has A tiny battery as a little accumulator Helper How far do you have to drive then okay I'll see I either turn around that's Translation or at esposo that's roughly A 60 or 65 or no I don't remember around 60 to 80 kilometer Loop wait what The Mercedes uh I think it's speeded up Because I was catching up But now that I went over to the left Lane and suddenly he speeded up okay We're back at doll and the consumption Was 1.32 kilograms per 100 kilometer Yeah okay it doesn't mean anything to You guys but um you know um one kilogram

Of hydrogen consists of roughly three 33 Kilowatt hour so if you take this number Multiply by 333 you will get 440 watt Hour per kilometer Okay going on okay and then also the car Reports this one which is uh KL but is This just the air it passes through yeah I think so yeah this is probably not Consumption of um Of energy it's just how much air that Needs needed to be purified Kiloliters of air okay cool All right uh I guess I'll go inside Wherever can I do I have enough do I Have enough hydrogen to uh go all the Way to runs down two seven I I think There is no percent scale here but you See that we have roughly I don't know how much this is 75 percent I want 70 of the tank I need to figure Out how much the time or how big the Tank is without trying to use any Reserve but um uh we can probably do the The full loop at least yeah We are on the Move now so we see here we Have head of display huh So speed information we have Compass Even wow and then here you can see some Information we have 1.6 kilowatt hour Nickel metal Hybrid battery For buffering I mean for a little bit of Region you can actually see it's Actually running now only in the battery But I guess eventually the battery yeah

Now now the the fuel cell kicks in so Yeah that's pretty cool and then here See we have some other stuff yeah fuel Economy wow okay okay so far so good and Here we have the air information thing So actually when I throttle it it sucks In more air huh okay All right let's check the weight of the Car With 70 tank 1020 all right Well not too bad okay not too bad And how is music today oh there's a Little bit of Tailwind Yeah I'm actually coasting right now in Neutral We need to test this yeah downhill at Birming door Okay let's test the sound system this Mira has JBL speakers Okay sounds good [Music] He pays almost a little bit overwhelming Interesting details I'm missing some uh some more details in The in the higher tones [Music] Especially in this song [Music] You can hear that the base is not so Tight and then because because of the Nature of this this tune then the bass Feels a little bit uh washed out or a Little bit messy maybe because there's a

Slight delay on each drum hit or Something what about rattling Is the interior good it's a Japanese car It's not a German car could be rattling [Music] It's from the back Normally it's rattling the door but in This car it rattles in the back I guess Maybe there's a mid base on the on the Partial Shelf So yeah if I would rate this system it Lacks some details it lacks the firmness And bass It's I would say mediocre maybe five or Six something like that yeah Look we have a long downhill now and It's just regening into the tiny battery What a hollowing region it's still yeah Still regioning Oh cool let me see uh oh wow okay so it Seems like in most cases around 1.6 Kilowatt hour is sufficient for okay Maybe not going down the mountain then You will fill up the battery quite Quickly but over here yeah this works Oh yeah now it's using battery oh okay That was a little bit well you you use The battery for a split second and now It's a combination of Battery Plus the Fuel cell Okay all right yeah it figures out that Yeah it seems like the logic is is Programmed to have some space for Regening but not depleted completely

Maybe Well I'll try to close now let me see uh There is no power in me oh I see that Everywhere I had to wait until it displays charging Okay we are neutral we've got a little Beep there's some traffic though some Well I'm have to see if I uh I have to Try to block the left lane Otherwise many people they tend to Overtake me and then slow poke in the Left lane and then I come in fast While we're picking our speed at least That's good and this time we also have Tailwind so we should have good Advantage there and then I haven't done my homework but the car Looks aerodynamic so we should have good Drug coefficient and maybe not that much Mass But yeah we'll see I guess now this is The problem Oh okay Okay whatever this guy is too slow uh There's a dude behind me typical like I'm waiting for him come on overtake Overtake is slow poking out there Whatever Yeah wow look at this oh Oh I think I have to blur the speed Again here oh but it is going to be Enough though Um let me see Oh wow I feel like it loses speed quite

Fast And also uh I've seen that um Complete are three tires they seem to Have fairly good rolling resistance I Haven't done any direct test on Nordic Friction Tire versus uh summer Tires but Yeah many people claim it oh but you Have winter tires and they are less Efficient I don't think so I've done Some tests in the past that was a while Ago but I need to do a more control test But let's see now yeah this is the part Where it still rolls wait a minute wait A minute do we have a new winner here Huh which sign was again I think was the Somewhere between the first and the Second sign okay we start losing speed Now Oh oh Yeah yeah this is exactly what I felt Also earlier that it tends to lose speed No that's it okay that's it oh no we Didn't set the records down today okay a Little bit on the region slipped on me Oh but Um well well well We just turned around at the roots and Now we're heading back to DAR and look At the consumption what wait at the high Speed test behind 1.3 something wasn't It this is almost half of that Huh Uh I didn't expect the difference to be

That big It is as if Toyota have tuned the mirror To be driving slow you know to optimize For typical Toyota drivers Well okay I guess we'll see once we are Backed in dollar what kind of Consumption we get because now we have Headwind on the way back We are back a dollar and look at this 0.81 only So um uh yeah and also here we see that The 178.1 kilometers so this car under Reports Distance by almost 2.1 percent So this one is of course lower but I Calculated that Low speed versus high speed we're Talking about 63 percent increase that is massive uh The EVS are tested Tesla efficient slick Is point no it's 30 increase high speed Versus low speed uh and on some blocks Here cars will have about 40 but I never Seen 63 increase what the heck So after Google about this and I found Out that the drug coefficient is 0.29 What the heck huh how the heck can this Car have 0.29 drug conversion it looks So slick well actually it has a massive Grill for the well for the fuel cell Um Yeah so that could be the reason why the High speed test is uh so much worse than The low speed test but also another Thing

Um fuel cells as far as I Google it when You have a higher load you have lower Efficiency versus when you have a lower Load and then combine that with electric Motors that also has slightly worse Efficiency at higher load then that Could be the reason why it is like this So we have roughly 40 45 tank left and I Estimated so far that we we could have Something like four and a half to five Kilograms of I don't know available fuel Before the this thermometer is zero so I Want to test now we need to bring it Down to low anyway but of course not run Out of the juice but if we hammer it on The way North now in South again try to Drive uh in the speed limit plus weight T how thirsty is it going to be okay Anyway I think I'm gonna go to Circle K And take a little p and also let the car Take a leak Oh Oh Okay we are hammering it at speed limit Plus vit actually similar to 1 000 Kilometer challenge So um yeah we have to find out how good Is this Mirai for Deutsche Autobahn Um Okay uh it's 17 degrees Celsius outside It's a 6 30 in the afternoon shouldn't Be too much traffic I'm actually Following the guy in front of Audi in Front so um yeah let's see then wait

Wait wait how far do I dare to drive Because If I go too deep then I can't run on a juice you know one does Not seem to just plug in an ecoflow here And get going that's not how it works Oh 1.47 okay so this one was actually 11 Higher than the 120 test Well um I guess at these speeds it Becomes a little bit expensive to drive Hmm okay but we need to go back to wam Now uh that's 37 kilometers away and Then I have to drive it as deep as Possible but I guess since this is a Japanese car they probably have some Massive buffer just like audio also and The Toyota B set Oh I miss calculating and we are Now out of juice what the heck do I do Now I'm stuck here Well I guess I just go and refuel Okay now I'm gonna show you how you Refuel so you have to open here and see You have the Fuel lid there open it up I set up the camera I'm going to record The refueling process and then here There's a little nozzle thing there And then you take this one And then you lock it in place you see You have to push it And then this one here goes Now now it's locked and now there's an

App You have to install Uh And now we are ready To start it And then there's there is an action Going on here [Music] Martin this is kind of silly Um there is a 1000 new cap I think I Need slightly more than this Uh yeah So and that's yeah I was recording this I need to do another segment to do the Remaining one but I'll just show you now You see here the nozzle the part of the Nozzle is frozen if you look what the Heck if we look at the we are the Thermal camera you see that This is just the physical reaction when You have a gas gas that you uh Warehouse Is expanding gas Wow it's actually Zero degrees Celsius Wow and also you can hear Uh as far as I understand now I think I've done my homework the the hydrogen Is stored here in liquid form in the Tanks over here and then it deliquifies The hydrogen and then they need to Compress it down to 700 bar so this Process takes a while so I empty out Part of the reservoir that's why this Unit here needs to start the liquifying

And then replenishing the reservoir so That when other cars come here they can Also refuel But here by the way I heard that even in Sunny California if too many people feel Like right after each other the nozzle Will freeze and then the system will Refuse to pump or I mean yeah refuse to Refuel until you wait until the nozzle Has heated up again so I've never Experienced this myself but I just read About it heard about it maybe someone in The U.S can confirm this And this is also what I've been talking About that you know if four or five cars Comes and they need to full have full Tank They will actually empty out the Reservoir here and that means that if Another car arrives they won't get any Juice the system needs to De-liquify and compress and I don't know How long it takes before this is the the Station is ready for another car Huh actually I tried to refuel again but It refused to start and then I checked My numbers and during the driving test I Measure that we managed to pull out Roughly 5.1 kilogram of hydrogen and Then during the the refueling session we Actually added 5.1 kilograms and then Unlike electric cars where you have Charging losses and discharging losses Here hydrogen is hydrogen but the meter

In the car measures how much a hydrogen It goes out from the tank that's that is Exactly what you also put into the tank So um yeah based on all this I estimated That this car can actually go 650 Kilometers really impressive range when It comes to the high speed range on the Other hand only 400 so it's a big Mystery why it is so thirsty at high Speed but yeah also you see that I also Try to calculate the equivalent what Hour per kilometer and it becomes quite Thirsty because of the inefficiency of The the full fuel cell yeah Um yeah so but again it is what it is That hydrogen at least it goes uh quite Fast to fill it and then it's clean it Will pee and it cleans the air for you That's good you just have to you you the Driver the owner has to pay for the Filter and what else Um yeah when it comes to cost so over Here it costs 195 Nook per kilogram of Hydrogen and then I worked out that Based on the consumption numbers here That it costs a lot Um I wonder if it actually costs more Than diesel yeah it actually costs more Than this uh versus Tesla or yeah a Tesla Model 3 which is similar at least Similar size maybe not similar Comfort The Comfort here is better Comfort hair Is similar to actually a model uh Model S but okay just as a comparison

Then you see the model 3 is way way Cheaper to run we're talking about Roughly five to almost seven times Cheaper based on a mix of some home Charting and some supercharging so yeah The 1000 kilometer challenge with this Hydrogen car is going to be freaking Expensive oh and the only the problem is That with hydrogen you can't simply go For some cheap home charging or anything It's not possible the only way to input Energy into this car is to go to the Refueling station So um yeah what you guys seen huh do you Guys want this I should probably summarize the Soundproofing is pretty good the Comfort Also pretty good the dampening is nice And soft stereo not so good uh space Actually kind of cramped for a five Meter car Range well it depends but yeah so now I Need to find out I'm quite eager to find Out will this car be the fastest ever in The 1000 kilometer challenge that is not A fossil car Wait what is fossil car by the way it's Where the fuel comes from the fossil Industry But the hydrogen comes from Pure Where this hydrogen come from hmm Uh the hydrogen fracking what there is It no it was again Steam reforming wait

Technically this car is also a fossil Car then Okay anyway I think that's going to be It for now I hope you guys enjoyed this Video as always thank you for watching And talk to you later

Electric City Vehicles Cars Power

How Electric Vehicles Power the Electricity Grid

EVs cost less than gas cars to own and operate, while producing significantly fewer GHG emissions throughout their lifespan. Initial purchase prices may be higher than comparable conventional vehicles, but energy costs and maintenance bills will offset that difference, and the federal Qualified Plug-In Electric Vehicle Motor Vehicle Tax Credit can help reduce those costs.

Unlike conventional vehicles that burn fossil fuels, EVs are powered by electricity that can come from clean, renewable sources or the dirtiest grids. We’re on a path to 100% clean energy, but until then, the carbon footprint of driving an EV will vary depending on where you live and where your energy comes from. Earthjustice attorneys are working across the country to improve and expand EV charging infrastructure, which can be a key part of lowering car-related emissions.

The Detroit Big Three, Ford, GM, and Stellantis (a joint venture between Chrysler, Ram, and Jeep), all have a goal of getting 40% or more of their US sales to be electric vehicles by 2030. And the EV manufacturer Tesla is aiming for 50% by 2035.

But some people worry that the electricity grid will be overwhelmed if everyone goes electric. What they don’t realize is that the amount of electricity used by a typical vehicle will be far lower than what it takes to fill a tank with gasoline. And most developed nations’ grids are designed to handle peak demand by incentivizing off-peak charging and making EV charging more expensive at high-demand times.
