Electric vehicles are quieter, sleeker, and more comfortable than conventional cars. They are also more affordable to operate because they cost less to maintain, and the price of fuel is lower. Plus, they emit fewer harmful greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.
EVs produce fewer ozone precursors, particulates, and other GHGs than traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, even after accounting for their production and battery energy consumption. And as the city’s electricity supply shifts toward renewable sources, EVs will produce even fewer GHGs.
The city’s EV Strategy compliments Eugene’s community-wide climate recovery goals, and we believe that increasing the number of EVs on our streets is an essential component of this effort. EVs can greatly reduce GHG emissions from vehicle traffic, and help to make our local air quality better by reducing the amount of ozone precursors and particulates in the atmosphere.
Unlike gasoline-powered vehicles, EVs can be charged at home, at work, and at public charging stations throughout the city. And they have a greater range than many vehicles on the market, allowing drivers to cover most of their daily commute with each charge.
It’s important to keep in mind that your EV’s driving range will vary based on factors such as temperature, accessories used, and how the vehicle is driven. For example, if you use the heat or air conditioning in your car, it will significantly reduce your range. So be sure to check your vehicle’s EPA estimated driving range before going on a long trip.
