Electric Vehicles and the Electric City

Electric Vehicles and the Electric City

Seattle, Washington, is working to have nearly one-third of its residents drive electric cars by 2030. The city is currently ranked third in the country for the per capita adoption of plug-in cars, after California and Hawaii. Electric vehicles are an important part of the city’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. In addition to cutting emissions, an electric car only consumes about 30 kilowatt-hours of electricity to run a hundred miles. An electric car consumes the same amount of electricity as the average American home.

There are many different EVs on the market today, ranging from the Hyundai Ioniq 5 to the Tesla Model 3. The Tesla Model 3 is a popular EV among drivers because of its high performance and low price. The Chevrolet Bolt EV is one of the most efficient EVs on the market, consuming just 28 kWh per 100 miles and offering a range of 259 miles. EVs can be expensive, but a 77.4-kWh battery pack costs less than $60,000 for the base model.

Many EVs can travel over 200 miles on a single charge. The most advanced models can drive up to 400 miles between charges. However, they consume more energy at high speeds, such as when driving on the highway. EVs can also deplete battery power when running the air conditioner or heater. Some EV drivers worry about running out of battery power if there’s no charging station nearby. While EVs can be recharged in your garage, it’s still best to use a charger when you’re traveling, especially if the range is low.
