New York City Expands Public Charging for Electric Vehicles
Electrifying transportation is important for two reasons: first, it allows diversification of the transportation fuel mix, which helps address energy security concerns, and second, it facilitates a clean energy transition. It also reduces carbon emissions.
There are many issues facing electric vehicles at the moment. These include charging times, charging standards, and relative grid impacts. As technology develops, these issues will diminish.
The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) is working to expand public charging for electric vehicles. Its plan is to add 120 Level 2 charging ports to curbside locations across the five boroughs. This is part of a four-year demonstration project. In addition, 120 Level 2 charging ports will be installed in municipal parking lots across the city. This project represents a significant commitment to EVs in New York City.
AEP Ohio will collect data on the use of electric vehicle charging stations and the prices of electricity. The data will be released regularly. The data will also be used to improve the reliability of the system.
New York City is not the only city to embrace electric vehicles. Cities throughout the country are introducing charging stations. The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections has some charging tips.
