Once it scavenges the Heat and you know Pulls heat from the battery until it's Cold then eventually we need to charge How slow will it charge because Yesterday I arrived at home here and you I have 11 Kow and the battery was kind Of cold the Min was I think it was 8° C It actually fire up the battery heater So instead of getting 9 to 10 kilowatt In here I got only 5 kilow so 5 KW was Going into the battery heater you could See that this one was going up I was Like what the heck huh um so maybe this Battery call Gates we're going to find Out so we will drive now and I will on Purpose not navigate to a fast charger I Will not preheat the battery we'll see What happens we try to uh you know res I Try to do what we used to do with the Regular um yo test except for that we're Not sleeping over there so we're just Doing a round trip today so okay let's Reset some stuff and then off we Go We just passed B and here we have an Average speed zone this is the start Camera and the look wait what theck Happened to that one it disappear now there was some uh features here That came Up okay uh you saw it briefly and then Disappeared uh I've seen it in the other Korean cars but uh I don't know why the Heck it's not showing now

Oh okay well always Buggy car but I can Show you something else if you go here And then you go to EV oh look at this Stuff man wow so we have a St of charge In way too big display uh we have some Uh consumption numbers in the past uh Few days well actually 5 days is it um Also here this is pretty Cool uh it shows you battery temperature That it's Low uh and other this one is misleading Man I I noticed that already doing range Test it's it's not we didn't pull 37% For for heating must be a bug but um but Here you see low battery temperature yes It is low we are down to 7 7 to 15° only So it's been slowly Scavenging the heat Out of the battery but now it's not that Much to scavenge but look look at the Consumption I mean we have gone Uphill slowly uphill and the consumption Is 181 and see well it's minus 3 over Here it was – 6 at the coldest wow this Is really good then yeah for winter Conditions uh really good so uh that Means we should be able to drive maybe 350 km yeah we'll see so um yeah now how Far we are we now we can for sure make It to yellow in a single charge but then The question would be how far on the way Back can be drive before we have to Charge O we are almost at yellow now and today We have a nice weather dry Road uh they

Have sanded the road and also yeah they Probably salt no actually I don't Remember they probably don't salt around Here but uh we have pretty good friction I'm going show here yeah braks hard Accelerates quite hard so Yeah uh this car is front wheel drive by The way so how would it handle in Slippery Roads unfortunately we don't encounter Today but uh you guys know how this Front drive no problemo but I could Maybe drive over Here see how it goes okay me see oh Do I get stuck Now well okay this was the most snow I Could find okay let's see get back on The Road okay once we get grip here Then oh okay okay it slips a bit and we Have some uh winter tires that would be Great yeah we and now at yo it's Fullblown winter over here yeah I'm Parked next to one of the Charing Stations so yeah we needed 3 hours to Get here that's uh pretty much close to Reference except but actually reference Be 255 at night but uh we draw in the Daytime – 7° c over here look at that Consumption we went uphill we are at I Don't remember around 700 M of sea level And uh yeah uh there's no indication Whether we can well again the car told Me okay you will probably not make it

Back to yes but it doesn't tell me how Many percent I will arrive with and also There is no keep clim it on here when I Want to leave the car um the batter is Cool down to 4 to 14° cius now H okay Interesting let's see how cold it can Get then We just passed ghoul now and we have 19% Battery left so uh gum claimed 60 K of Range left I see here that we have uh 11 KW hour yeah I think that's around 60 km Battery is also cold now and um wellit So 60 km range the car keeps bugging About this uh it doesn't stop me I mean We we are 50 km away we have 55 km range And the car claimed that I need to Charge before getting there it kept Bugging me so even if I click away the Message it will pop up again in a couple Of minutes that's a bit annoying and Also we are going downhill you know Recently we heard in the news that Tesla Re reveal what kind of what what affects The the range of the car consumption you Know it was mentioned downhill or Elevation change rather elevation change Temperature Wind uh what again weight of the car Lots of lots of factors and I wonder if These cars takes in account all that Stuff or not but okay anyway uh Consumption is uh ridiculously low for Winter look at this 179 this car also Over report this car under reports by 7%

So the real consumption is even lower Than this so okay um well hopefully we Can make it over to G speak then we'll Stop and charge there and we'll see how Slow it Charges uh we're now in the average Speed zone on the way back and this time It worked okay I don't know what the Heck happened last time we just uh Bugged or something but yeah see so we Now have see if I slow down here the Current speed is there on the top and Then average speed updates and then also Distance left of the aage speed so wow What kind of alien technology is this Huh very few cars has it um the Korean Cars they have had it for a long time I I think I saw this for the first time in E neuro in Korea uh some five six years ago so yeah Uh even the most advanced Teslas don't Have this feature which is very nice Because then you can drive at the proper Speed you have to Slowpoke the only Problem is That uh it claims 86 km per hour which Is the speed of speed but let me see There's going to be uh a speed tester Over there somewhere not sure if it Works or not but it seems to not show GPS speed which is a bit weird uh many Korean cars they will have one Speedo Speed but then in the screen they will Typically show GPS speed I can switch it

Take a little while before we can uh Leave now and go back home let me see How far away from home are we if you go To search here and then uh previous Destination Um uh yes same yeah this one for Example okay let's see set destination Yeah it don't it bugs me every time About this okay no no I don't want to do That just go okay 125 km okay quick Month if I average uh less than 200 wat I need I need around 20 something Kilowatt hour okay we are currently at 3.6 Kow hour okay that's going to take Some time oh wow look at this once we hit 10° Here we get boom 230 amp maximum speed Wow okay that's good so it means that This battery doesn't cold get much at All so as long as it's more than 10° Then you get maximum speed so now we can Finally get some uh charging going On all right we've been charging for a While we have 46% 15 km we have 125 to Go uh yeah I don't know exactly how much We need uh we have some 90 stretch here High speed Stretch uh and then for the rest okay But um uh you see here 28 kwatt hour so Quick month we have over 200 W hour per Kilm on the budget so that should be Enough but you have to remember that you Have to have about 5 KW at the bottom so You don't to go in freaking limp mode so

Okay I'll just let the car charge a Little bit more seems like this is what You need when you try to drive an Electric car or you can say electronic Car in Winter yeah then like this Can happen yeah with every electric car Out there of course yeah So now I just have to um find a good Position where I have to get I have to Get the Cor in the Background like this and then make the Thumbnail oh almost ran on the the Car almost sto no wa limp mode oh no you Know got stranded I got stranded I could Just lie a little bit Yeah the sun is Always lying I just say I got stranded Yeah okay anyway let's stop digging Around let's go home and then every time You start the car before you drive you Have to go to setup let me change the Light bit okay and then you go to Vehicle and then driver Assistance and then speed limit and then Switch off this one and then go Back and then go to driver attention Warning disable this one and then you Good you have to do this every time yeah Okay so now we have 31 to 37° C in the Battery so that's could be nice for Heats gaging yeah let's see what kind of Let's see how cold it gets by the time We get home right in about 1 and a half Hour okay let's Go

All right we're back home oh this is Beautiful and then we have uh one EC Charging station here uh the battery is Uh cooled down to 9 to 18° C uh but I'm not going to plug in well I Mean I could plug in we have some smart Uh stuff here going on uh but uh I'm not Going to charge yet because the spot Price is quite high right now I had to Wait a couple hours before I do some Serious charging so that means that Meanwhile the batter is going to cool Down will that cause any problems Uh yeah we'll see I might make a Separate video about this it's Interesting because um if the battery is Too cold then it will actually have to Heat up the battery even on AC it's Crazy yeah even if I set the yeah I set The E to only deliver around 3 4 Kilowatt uh but the car was not smart Enough to uh uh yeah it still wanted to Preheat the battery uh uh which means That it sucked 5 Kil And then I was only getting 5 Kow into The battery which is kind of Weird yeah if you set that one to 5 KW Then I would get nothing into the Battery but okay uh anyway Um when it come to the whole uh the limp Mode that was the most scary part I'm Overexposed yeah I have to park outside Now not inside the garage because the Id4 GTX is in the garage but I can do

This and get some more lights here yeah Okay that's slightly better the lymph Mode was a big disappoint ointment uh I Would expect the the Koreans to uh you Know have better engineering behind this Whole thing right uh but it it could Possibly be fixed because if they have Alien technology if they have heat Scavenging what they could do is they Could well actually I'm not sure if they Have that Mode oh yeah it depends on how many Valves and like that you know it Probably doesn't have OCT valve does it Have a five valve or something if it can Take heat left over heat from the motor To heat the battery during driving that' Be great yeah or another option would be To then fire up the uh the PTC heater or Fire up the battery heater which sucks I've seen it in the screen it will suck Around four to 5 kilowatt and then you I Can try now by the way just for fun Um if we go here and then you go to Battery conditioning and then you Activate it I'm not sure if you can Activate it now yeah I think you can Okay um you will see that maybe take a Little bit and then what can we see yeah You see here you can see here we didn't Actually use it during this trip oh Sorry uh because I on purpose I wanted To not use it I've been using it in 1,000 K

Challenge this is a bit weird it claims To be active but um if you go home now If you go to this One you see that it's not active yet Uh and if you look in car Scanner it's not active yet I mean it's Just a PTC Heater uh it should just instantly fire Up what are you waiting for Christmas okay so that's a bit uh weird Um bad user experience uh I activated it As a user and I expect it to be working Right so even if I don't have any there There there there okay oh the lag I Forgot the Legacy automaker lag okay now It pulls 5 KW now this one yeah but you See this would be uh slightly Problematic because when you have low State of charge you don't want to spend It on this one so maybe the Koreans they Already chose that okay uh in order to Get the most uh range out of that Situation we will not heat with the Battery but then you just have to Limp okay so maybe there is no solution To this this unless they could have put More Cobalt in the battery but maybe They have Cobalt limitation or yeah who Knows but okay anyway it was an Interesting trip now over to uh y last Thing I to show you this um here's the Consumption 179 okay uh correct I think It's around 178 uh wat hour per kilm Still very nice so despite being quite

How and Where You Charge Your Electric Car Matters

The new generation of electric cars is promising to bring some of the biggest changes to the industry since the advent of the internal combustion engine. Unlike the gas-powered vehicles we all drive, the new EVs have no tank of fuel, and their batteries can be recharged at home or public charging stations. They also produce no tailpipe emissions and can often be cheaper to operate than a comparable gasoline car, thanks to fewer mechanical parts and less frequent maintenance needs.

The EVs we test, like the slick Porsche Taycan GTS and its 246-mile EPA range in combined driving, are the most efficient EVs available, but even more mainstream models are getting competitive with traditional vehicles on efficiency and comfort. For example, the Honda Prologue has a 248-mile EPA range and a smooth, silent, near-silent ride. And without a massive engine, transmission, and fuel tank, electric cars can use more space for passengers and cargo.

But how and where you charge your EV can have big consequences for the climate. Earthjustice attorneys are working across the country to bring 100% clean energy, and EVs powered by electricity from that source can reduce carbon pollution significantly.

But as the number of EVs on our roads grows, so must access to reliable charging. That’s why we’re expanding the city-operated network of fast chargers, and equipping more spaces in parking garages and workplaces with Level 2 ports. And for apartment dwellers and others without a dedicated garage, there are plans to make more public charging available in the five boroughs.
