Electric City Vehicles Powering the Future

While the first spec that shoppers fixate on when shopping for an electric vehicle is its EPA-rated range, there are other important considerations. The most important is the efficiency of the EV. Compared with gasoline-powered vehicles, EVs typically have much more efficient engines and drivetrains. This translates into lower fuel costs and less maintenance, including no need for tune-ups or oil changes.
Ford GM Power Manufacturing
While electric cars are the fastest-growing type of vehicle on the market, other manufacturers are making big investments to expand their offerings. Ford, for example, just opened a new factory in Stanton, Tennessee, called “Blue Oval City” to build its upcoming F-150 Lightning pickup. The plant will create 6000 jobs, including a facility to assemble the cars and one to make the 100-kilowatt-hour battery packs they will use. The truck is expected to offer between 230 and 320 miles of range on a full charge.
As a result of the growing number of EVs, many communities will need to invest in new infrastructure to support them. That includes expanding the network of public charging stations. Currently, cities like New York are working to prepare for an electric future by installing 120 EV chargers at curbside locations over the next four years. This will help the city reach its goal of having 50% of all vehicles be electric by 2030. In addition, the city is planning to equip 20% of spaces in municipal parking garages and lots with Level 2 chargers by 2025.
